OFFICE PREMISES (OVERCROWDING) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1963.

I, JOHN LYNCH, Minister for Industry and Commerce, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by subsection (2) of section 9 of the Office Premises Act, 1958 (No. 3 of 1958), after consultation with the Minister for Health and having referred the proposals to which effect is given by the following regulations to the Advisory Council, hereby make the following regulations:—

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Office Premises (Overcrowding) (Amendment) Regulations, 1963.

(2) These Regulations shall come into operation on the 2nd day of September, 1963.

2. The Office Premises (Overcrowding) Regulations, 1959 ( S.I. No. 30 of 1959 ), are hereby amended by the insertion after Regulation 2 of the following Regulation:

"3. Where the area set apart for the use of persons employed in a room contains or is bounded on one, or more than one, side by a counter, the floor space under and on both sides of the counter shall be reckoned in calculating for the purpose of Regulation 2 of these Regulations the amount of floor space allowed for each such person."

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The purpose of this Order is to amend the Office Premises (Overcrowding) Regulations, 1959, which prescribe a minimum floor space for workers in offices. The amendment makes special provision for rooms containing counters.
