IMPOSITION OF DUTIES (No. 132) (IRON AND STEEL PRODUCTS) ORDER, 1963.

The Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 1 of the Imposition of Duties Act, 1957 (No. 7 of 1957), and section 22 of the Finance Act, 1962 (No. 15 of 1962), hereby order as follows :

1. This Order may be cited as the Imposition of Duties (No. 132) (Iron and Steel Products) Order, 1963.

2. This Order shall come into operation on the 5th day of February, 1963.

3. The Imposition of Duties (No. 128) (Customs Duties and Form of Customs Tariff) Order, 1962 ( S.I. No. 163 of 1962 ), is hereby amended by—

(a) the substitution for the matter in the first column of the Schedule at tariff heading number 73.10 (A) of the following :

" Bars and rods which have cross-sections in the shape of :

(1) Squares of which the sides do not exceed 6 inches :

(a) of which the sides do not exceed 2 inches

(b) Other

(2) Rectangles of which the greater side does not exceed 14 inches and the lesser side does not exceed 3 inches :

(a) Of which the greater side does not exceed 3 inches and the lesser side does not exceed 1 inch

(b) Other

(3) Other squares and rectangles and other shapes :

(a) Of which the greatest cross-sectional dimension does not exceed 10 inches and are not squares :

(i) Of which the greatest cross-sectional dimension does not exceed 3 inches

(ii) Other

(b) Other ",

(b) the deletion of the matter in the second, third, fourth and fifth columns of the Schedule at tariff heading number 73.10 (A),

(c) the insertion of " (a) ", " 37½% or £30 per ton*", " 37½% or £30 per ton*" and " 25% or £20 per ton*" in the second, third, fourth and fifth columns, respectively, of the Schedule at tariff heading numbers 73.10 (A) (1) (a), 73.10 (A) (1) (b), 73.10 (A) (2) (a), 73.10 (A) (2) (b), 73.10 (A) (3) (a) (i) and 73.10 (A) (3) (a) (ii) (which are inserted by this Order),

(d) the insertion of " Free " in the third, fourth and fifth columns of the Schedule at tariff heading number 73.10 (A) (3) (b) (inserted by this Order),

(e) the deletion of " Other bars and rods;" in the first column of the Schedule at tariff heading number 73.10 (B),)2

(f) the substitution for the matter in the first column of the Schedule at tariff heading number 73.11 (B) of :

" Other :

(1) Z sections

(2) H, I, T and U sections of which the greatest cross-sectional dimension does not exceed 10 inches

(3) Angles :

(a) Of which the sum of the widths of the limbs (measured externally) is not less than 1 ½ inches and not greater than 12 inches :

(i) Of which the sum of the widths of the limbs (measured externally) is not greater than 6 inches

(ii) Other

(b) Other

(4) Other shapes and sections :

(a) Of which the greatest cross-sectional dimension does not exceed 10 inches :

(i) Of which the greatest cross-sectional dimension does not exceed 3 inches

(ii) Other

(b) Other ",

(g) the deletion of the matter in the second, third, fourth and fifth columns of the Schedule at tariff heading number 73.11 (B),

(h) the insertion of " Free " in the third, fourth and fifth columns of the Schedule at tariff heading number 73.11 (B) (1) (inserted by this Order),

(i) the insertion of " (a)", " 37 ½% or £30 per ton*", " 37 ½% or £30 per ton*", " 25% or £20 per ton*" in the second, third, fourth and fifth columns, respectively, of the Schedule at tariff heading numbers 73.11 (B) (2), 73.11 (B) (3) (a) (i), 73.11 (B) (3) (a) (ii), 73.11 (B) (4) (a) (i) and 73.11 (B) (4) (a) (ii) (which are inserted by this Order),

(j) the insertion of " Free " in the third, fourth and fifth columns of the Schedule at tariff heading numbers 73.11 (B) (3) (b) and 73.11 (B) (4) (b) (which are inserted by this Order),

(k) the substitution of—

" Other :

(1) Sheets and plates not more than 1/8 inch in thickness and not more than 48 inches in width

(2) Other " for

" Other " in the first column of the Schedule at tariff heading number 73.13 (B),

(l) the deletion of " Free " in the third, fourth and fifth columns of the Schedule at tariff heading number 73.13 (B),

(m) the insertion of " (a)", " 37 ½% ", " 37 ½% " and " 25% " in the second, third, fourth and fifth columns, respectively, of the Schedule at tariff heading number 73.13 (B) (1) (inserted by this Order), and

(n) the insertion of " Free " in the third, fourth and fifth columns of the Schedule at tariff heading number 73.13 (B) (2) (inserted by this Order).

4. The Imposition of Duties (No. 131) (Reduction of Rates of Customs Duties) Order, 1962 ( S.I. No. 214 of 1962 ), shall apply and have effect in relation to goods to which this Order applies as if this Order had come into operation immediately before the 1st day of January, 1963.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order extends the scope of the Customs duty on bars, rods, angles, shapes, sections, sheets and plates of iron or steel.
