VOLUNTARY HEALTH INSURANCE ACT, 1957 (COMMENCEMENT OF SECTIONS 23 AND 24) ORDER, 1957.

The Minister for Health, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by subsection (4) of section 23 of the Voluntary Health Insurance Act, 1957 (No. 1 of 1957), (hereinafter called " the Act ") hereby orders as follows :—

1. This Order may be cited as the Voluntary Health Insurance Act, 1957 (Commencement of Sections 23 and 24) Order, 1957.

2. Sections 23 and 24 of the Act shall come into operation on the 1st day of June, 1957.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order fixes the 1st June as the date from which it will be an offence for any person to provide benefits by insurance or otherwise to defray the whole or part of the cost of medical, surgical, hospital or other health services unless he holds a health insurance licence issued by the Minister for Health. Benefits provided by a trade union, by certain registered Friendly Societies and under certain insurance contracts are not affected by this prohibition.
