DEPARTMENT OF POSTS AND TELEGRAPHS. THE INLAND POST AMENDMENT (No. 8) WARRANT, 1956.

Dated: 8th May, 1956.

The Minister for Finance, on the representation of the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs as testified by his signature hereto, and in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 2 of the Post Office Act, 1908, hereby orders as follows :—

1.—(1) This Warrant may be cited as the Inland Post Amendment (No. 8) Warrant, 1956.

(2) This Warrant shall come into operation on the 4th day of June, 1956.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to this Warrant.

3. In this Warrant " the Principal Warrant " means the Inland Post Warrant, 1939 ( S. R. & O. No. 202 of 1939 ).

4. This Warrant shall be construed as one with the Principal Warrant.

5. The following paragraph is hereby substituted for paragraph (3) of Regulation 5 of the Principal Warrant :

" (3) There shall be charged and paid for the conveyance of an express packet, in addition to the postage sums and fees ordinarily payable, the fees at the rates specified in the Third Schedule hereto. The services shall be subject to the further conditions and provisions contained in the body of this Warrant."

6. Regulation 33 of the Principal Warrant is hereby revoked.

7. Regulation 45 of the Principal Warrant is hereby amended by the substitution of " four pounds " for " two pounds."

8. Regulation 46 of the Principal Warrant is hereby amended by the substitution of " four pounds " for " two pounds."

9.—(1) The entries in the First Schedule hereto are hereby substituted for the entries numbered 3, 4, 5, 7 and 8 in the First Schedule, as amended, to the Principal Warrant.

(2) The entries in the Second Schedule hereto are hereby substituted for the entries in the Third Schedule to the Principal Warrant.

(3) The entries in Part I of the Third Schedule hereto are hereby substituted for the entries in Part I of the Fourth Schedule, as amended, to the Principal Warrant, and the entries in Part II of the Third Schedule hereto are hereby substituted for the entries in Part II of the said Fourth Schedule, as amended.

A printed packet upon which no part, or a part only, of the postage payable thereon is prepaid shall be forwarded charged with double the amount of the deficient postage.

4. New paper (Registered at the General Post Office.)

Not exceeding 6 oz. (per copy) 2d. For every additional 6 oz. or fractional part thereof (per copy) 1d.

As for letters

2 lb.

(1) The rates of postage specified in Col. 2 shall be charged and paid on every newspaper, whether posted singly or in a packet of two or more.

(2) Any newspaper not registered will, if posted or tendered for transmission by post, be charged with postage as a printed packet, letter or parcel of the same weight, whichever treatment involves the lowest charge (See Regulation 16).

(3) Any newspaper upon which no part, or a part only, of the postage payable thereon is prepaid shall be forwarded charged with double the amount of the deficient postage.

5. Sample Packet

For delivery in Ireland a mileage fee at the rate of one shilling for the first mile or part thereof and sixpence for every additional mile or part thereof.

For delivery in Great Britain, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands, or the Isle of Man, a mileage fee of one shilling.

Writing down of express message received by telephone.

A fee (in addition to the appropriate telephone fee and the appropriate mileage fee) of ninepence.
