LOCAL ELECTIONS (AMENDMENT) (No. 2) ORDER, 1955.

The Minister for Local Government in exercise of the powers conferred on him by article 5 of the Schedule to the Local Government (Application of Enactments) Order, 1898 as amended by section 39 of the Local Government Act, 1941 and by section 10 of the Local Government (Ireland) Act, 1919 hereby orders as follows :—

1. This Order may be cited as the Local Elections (Amendment) (No. 2) Order, 1955.

2. In this Order, " the Principal Order " means the Local Elections Order, 1942 (S.R. & O. 1942, No. 255).

3. Where a member of the Garda Síochána is assigned for duty in connection with an election, and the nature of his duty is, in the opinion of the returning officer, such as to prevent him from voting at the polling station at which he would otherwise be entitled to vote, the returning officer may authorise him in writing to vote at any other polling station in the same local electoral area, and that polling station shall, notwithstanding anything contained in the Principal Order, be the polling station allotted to him.
