SOCIAL WELFARE (DETERMINATION OF EXPENDITURE ON PENSIONS) ORDER, 1953.

The Minister for Social Welfare, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 71 of the Social Welfare Act, 1952 (No. 11 of 1952), and with the sanction of the Minister for Finance, hereby orders as follows :—

1. This Order may be cited as the Social Welfare (Determination of Expenditure on Pensions) Order, 1953.

2. In this Order—

"the Act" means the Social Welfare Act, 1952 ;

"the Minister" means the Minister for Social Welfare ;

"supplementary pension order" means an order for the payment through the post office of a supplementary weekly sum on account of any pension or allowance specified in article 4 hereof.

3. For the purposes of determining, in relation to the period beginning on the 5th January, 1953, and ending on the 2nd July, 1953, the amounts of the payments to be made—

(a) out of the Social Insurance Fund under subsection (5) of section 14 of the Act in respect of widows' (contributory) pensions and orphans' (contributory) allowances, and

(b) out of moneys provided by the Oireachtas in pursuance of subsection (1) of section 61 of the Act—

the provisions of article 4 hereof shall have effect, and the provisions of the said subsections of the Act shall be modified to the extent necessary to give effect to this Order.

4. The total amount expended during and in respect of the said period by way of supplementary pension orders in respect of :—

(a) widow's (contributory) pension,

(b) orphan's (contributory) allowance,

(c) widow's (non-contributory) pension, and

(d) orphan's (non-contributory) pension

shall be apportioned between those respective classes of pension and allowance in such amounts as the Minister may, with the consent of the Minister for Finance, determine.
