EMERGENCY IMPOSITION OF DUTIES (No. 240) ORDER, 1949.

The Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 1 of the Emergency Imposition of Duties Act, 1932 (No. 16 of 1932), as adapted in consequence of the enactment of the Constitution, and of every and any other power them in this behalf enabling, hereby order as follows :—

1. This Order may be cited as the Emergency Imposition of Duties (No. 240) Order, 1949.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to this Order.

3. Section 7 of and the Third Schedule to the Finance Act, 1937 (No. 18 of 1937), as amended by subsequent enactments, shall, as regards articles imported on or after the 11th day of May, 1949, have effect as if " 75% " were substituted for the percentage inserted by the Personal Clothing and Wearing Apparel (Customs Duty) Order, 1948 (S. I., No. 14 of 1948), in the third column of the said Third Schedule at reference number 14 as respects articles (other than rubber proofed articles) chargeable under that reference number which are made wholly or mainly of woven tissue and are overcoats, coats, suits, jackets, waistcoats or trousers and are either suitable for wear by men, or suitable for wear by boys.

4. So much of subparagraph (c) of paragraph (1) of Article 4 of the Personal Clothing and Wearing Apparel (Customs Duty) Order, 1948 (S. I., No. 14 of 1948), as suspends the minimum duty chargeable on articles mentioned at reference numbers 17, 18, 19 and 20 in Part III of the Third Schedule to the Finance Act, 1937 (No. 18 of 1937), shall on the 11th day of May, 1949, cease to have effect except in relation to such articles which are rubber proofed.
