STATUTORY RULES AND ORDERS. 1937. No. 158.

WHALE FISHERIES ACT, 1937 (EXTENSION TO SPERM WHALES) ORDER, 1937.

WHEREAS it is enacted by sub-section (2) of section 2 of the Whale Fisheries Act, 1937 (No. 4 of 1937), that the Minister for Agriculture may at any time make an order declaring that the said Act or any one or more sections of the said Act shall apply, either generally or in a specified area and subject to such exceptions, adaptations, and modifications as may be specified in such order, in respect of any kind of whales other than whalebone or baleen whales, and whenever the Minister makes such an order the said Act shall have extended application in accordance with the terms of such order :

NOW, I, Séamas Ó Riain, Minister for Agriculture, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sub-section (2) of section 2 of the Whale Fisheries Act, 1937 (No. 4 of 1937) and of every and any other power me in this behalf enabling, do hereby order as follows :—

1. This Order may be cited as the Whale Fisheries Act, 1937 (Extension to Sperm Whales) Order, 1937.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1923 (No. 46 of 1923), applies to the interpretation of this Order in like manner as it applies to the interpretation of an Act of the Oireachtas.

3. The Whale Fisheries Act, 1937 (No. 4 of 1937), shall apply generally to sperm whales.

4. This Order shall come into operation on the 1st day of December, 1937, in the following places, that is to say :—

(a) the Atlantic Ocean north of 40° South Latitude ;

(b) Davis Strait ;

(c) Baffin Bay ;

(d) Greenland Sea,

and in all other places shall come into operation on the 12th day of July, 1937.
