STATUTORY RULES AND ORDERS. 1934. No. 382.

VARIATION OF THE SCALE OF REGISTRATION EXPENSES, 1934.

WHEREAS the Minister for Finance is required and empowered by section 16 of the Local Services (Temporary Economics) Act, 1934 (No. 16 of 1934), to make, for and in respect of the registration expenses incurred in relation to the preparation of the register of electors which will come into force on the 1st day of June, 1935, such variation of the scale of registration expenses framed by him under sub-section (3) of section 12 of the Electoral Act, 1923 (No. 12 of 1923), as will in his opinion secure that the sums payable in respect of such expenses to any person in accordance with such scale will be reduced by such amount as the said Minister shall think proper having regard to the deductions from salaries to be made under the said Local Services (Temporary Economies) Act, 1934 , and the other circumstances of the case:

AND WHEREAS the scale of registration expenses framed by the said Minister under the said sub-section (3) of section 12 of the Electoral Act, 1923 (No. 12 of 1923), is dated the 21st day of February, 1924, and is contained in Statutory Rules and Orders, No. 6 of 1924:

NOW the Minister for Finance, in pursuance of section 16 of the Local Services (Temporary Economies) Act, 1934 (No. 16 of 1934), and in exercise of the power thereby conferred on him and of every and any other power him in this behalf enabling, hereby varies, in accordance with the following provisions, the said scale of registration expenses framed by him under sub-section (3) of section 12 of the Electoral Act, 1923 (No. 12 of 1923), dated the 21st day of February, 1924, and contained in Statutory Rules and Orders No. 6 of 1924, that is to say :—

1. This instrument may be cited as the Variation of the Scale of Registration Expenses, 1934.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1923 (No. 46 of 1923), applies to the interpretation of this instrument in like manner as it applies to the interpretation of an Act of the Oireachtas.

3. The provisions of this instrument apply only to registration expenses incurred in relation to the preparation of the register of electors which will come into force on the 1st day of June, 1935.

4. Wherever the total sum payable to any person under the said scale of registration expenses by virtue of provisions therein which purport expressly to prescribe or relate to remuneration does not exceed thirty pounds, such total sum shall be paid without variation, but where such total sum exceeds thirty pounds the whole of such total sum shall be varied in accordance with the table of variations annexed hereto.

5. Wherever the total sum payable to any person under the said scale of registration expenses by virtue of provisions therein which purport expressly to prescribe or relate to remuneration and expenses does not exceed thirty-six pounds, such total sum shall be paid without variation, but where such total sum exceeds thirty-six pounds, five-sixths of such total sum shall be varied in accordance with the table of variations annexed hereto.

6. In the case of every sum payable under the said scale of registration expenses by virtue of provisions therein which purport expressly to prescribe or relate to expenses, such sum shall be payable without variation.

7. In the case of every sum payable under the said scale of registration expenses which is required by statute, contract of service, or otherwise to be surrendered by the person receiving the same to the local authority by whom he is employed or to the Exchequer, such sum shall, notwithstanding anything contained in any or the foregoing provisions, be payable without variation.

TABLE OF VARIATIONS.

Where the amount liable to variation exceeds £30 but does not exceed £50, such amount shall be reduced either by 2½ per cent. or, if a reduction of 2½ per cent. would reduce such amount to less than £30, by the difference between £30 and such amount.

Where the amount liable to variation exceeds £50 such amount shall be reduced by—

2½ per cent. of the first £50 thereof,
