S.I. No. 437/2023 - Roads Act 1993 (Classification of Regional Roads) (Amendment) Order 2023

Notice of the making of this Statutory Instrument was published in

“Iris Oifigiúil” of 5th September, 2023.

I, EAMON RYAN, Minister for Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 8 and 10(1)(b) of the Roads Act 1993 (No. 14 of 1993) and the National Roads and Road Traffic (Transfer of Departmental Administration and Ministerial Functions) Order 2002 (S.I. No. 298 of 2002), hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Roads Act 1993 (Classification of Regional Roads) (Amendment) Order 2023.

2. The Roads Act 1993 (Classification of Regional Roads) Order 2012 (S.I. No. 54 of 2012) is amended in the Schedule –

(a) by the insertion, after the mention of the regional road R300 in column (1) and the matter in column (2) opposite the mention of that regional road, of the following:

“R307 Castlebar, County Mayo

Between its junction with the N5 at Aghadrinagh and its junction with the R310 at Ellison Street via Station Road, Spencer Street and The Mall all at Castlebar in the county of Mayo.

R308 Castlebar, County Mayo

Between its junction with the N5 at Doogary and its junction with the R307 at Station Road via Kilkenny and Saleen all at Castlebar in the county of Mayo.

R309 Castlebar - Westport, County Mayo

Between its junction with the N5 at Liscromwell and its junction with the N59 at North Mall, Westport via Moneenbradagh; Lawn Road, Humbert Way and Westport Road at Castlebar; Knockaphunta, Derrylea, Claggarnagh and Kilbree Lower; Knockranny, Castlebar Street, (and via Distillery Road) at Westport all in the county of Mayo.”,

(b) by the substitution of the following for the matter in column (2) opposite the mention of the regional road R310 in column (1):

“Castlebar - Rathnaconeen, County Mayo

Between its junction with R311 at Lannagh Road Castlebar and its junction with N26 at Rathnaconeen via Lannagh Road, Upper Chapel Street, Lower Chapel Street (and via Tucker Street, Linen Hall Street, Bridge Street, Main Street and Ellison Street, Mountain View Road, Knockacroghery and Old Westport Road), Davitt’s Terrace and Pontoon Road at Castlebar; Carrowncurry, Cappagh, Clydagh Bridge, Ross West, Crillaun, Pontoon, Cuingbeg, Knockmore and Corroy all in the county of Mayo.”,

(c) by the substitution of the following for the matter in column (2) opposite the mention of the regional road R311 in column (1):

“Castlebar - Newport, County Mayo

Between its junction with R309 at Lannagh Road, Castlebar and its junction with N59 at Main Street, Newport via Lannagh Road, Garryduff, Newtown Road and Newport Road at Castlebar; Derrycoosh, Logjody Bridge, Cuilmore; and Castlebar Road at Newport all in the county of Mayo.”,

(d) by the substitution of the following for the matter in column (2) opposite the mention of the regional road R330 in column (1):

“Westport - Partry, County Mayo

Between its junction with the N59 at Bridge Street Westport and its junction with N84 at Partry via Mill Street, Altamount Street and Ballinrobe Road at Westport; Knockroosky, Killavally, Cloonee and Ballynanerroon all in the county of Mayo.”,

(e) by the substitution of the following for the matter in column (2) opposite the mention of the regional road R373 in column (1):

“Breaffy - Castlebar, County Mayo

Between its junction with R308 at Kilkenny and its junction with the R310 at Bridge Street, Castlebar via Drumconlan, Moneenbradagh, Springfield, Lower Charles Street and Lucan Street at Castlebar all in the county of Mayo.”,

(f) by the substitution of the following for the matter in column (2) opposite the mention of the regional road R407 in column (1):

“Kilcock - Naas, County Kildare

Between its junction with M4 at Pitchfordstown and its junction with M7 at Osberstown, Naas via Duncreevan, Ballybrack, Baltreacy Cross, Boherhole Cross; College Road, Main Street and Sallins Road at Clane; Castlesize and Barrettstown all in the county of Kildare.”,

and

(g) by the deletion of the mention of the regional road R917 in column (1) and of the matter in column (2) opposite that mention.

This order amends the Schedule of the Roads Act 1993 (Classification of Regional Roads) Order 2012 (S.I. No. 54 of 2012) to address road classification issues regarding a number of regional roads in County Mayo and the R407 in County Kildare.
