S.I. No. 12/2021 - Roads Act 1993 (Classification of Regional Roads) (Amendment) Order 2021

Notice of the making of this Statutory Instrument was published in

“Iris Oifigiúil” of 22nd January, 2021.

I, EAMON RYAN, Minister for Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 8 (1) and 10 (1)(b) of the Roads Act 1993 (No. 14 of 1993) and the National Roads and Road Traffic (Transfer of Departmental Administration and Ministerial Functions) Order 2002 ( S.I. No. 298 of 2002 ) (as adapted by the Transport, Tourism and Sport (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order 2020 ( S.I. No. 351 of 2020 )), hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Roads Act 1993 (Classification of Regional Roads) (Amendment) Order 2021.

2. The Roads Act 1993 (Classification of Regional Roads) Order 2012 ( S.I. No. 54 of 2012 ) is amended in the Schedule –

(a) by the substitution of the following for the matter in column (2) opposite the mention of the regional road R286 in column (1):

“Sligo - Pollboy, County Leitrim

Between its junction with R870 at Lake Isle Road Sligo in the county of Sligo and its junction with N16 at Pollboy in the county of Leitrim via Connaughton Road, The Mall, Molloway Hill and Hazelwood Road at Sligo; Hazelwood Demense and Ballynamona in the county of Sligo: Sriff and Cornalaghta in the county of Leitrim.”,

(b) by the substitution of the following for the matter in column (2) opposite the mention of the regional road R287 in column (1):

“Sligo - Killarga, County Leitrim

Between its junction with R870 at Temple Street Sligo in the county of Sligo and its junction with R280 at Lisgorman in the county of Leitrim via Mail Coach Road and Pearse Road at Sligo; Carraroe, Tullynagracken South, Lahanagh and Gortlownan in the county of Sligo: Ardakip Beg, Cleen and Socks in the county of Leitrim.”,

(c) by the substitution of the following for the matter in column (2) opposite the mention of the regional road R291 in column (1):

“Sligo - Rosses Point, County Sligo

Between its junction with R287 at Mail Coach Road and its junction with R870 at Old Market Street via Pearse Road all at Sligo in the county of Sligo

and

between its junction with R870 at Connaughton Road and its junction with N4 at Victoria Road via Markievicz Road all at Sligo in the county of Sligo

and

between its junction with N15 at Cartron Sligo and its terminal point at its junction with local road L3309 at Rosses Upper via Cartron Hill and Mardyke at Sligo; Ballincar, Ballyweelin and Rosses Point Promenade all in the county of Sligo.”,

(d) by the substitution of the following for the matter in column (2) opposite the mention of the regional road R292 in column (1):

“Sligo – Strandhill - Ballisadare, County Sligo

Between its junction with R870 at Adelaide Street Sligo and its junction with N59 at Belladrehid via Lord Edward Street and Knappagh Road at Sligo; Cummeen, Killaspugbrone, Culleenamore, Seafield, Breeoge and Kilmacowen all in the county of Sligo.”,

(e) by the insertion, after the mention of the regional road R868 in column (1) and the matter in column (2) opposite the mention of that regional road, of the following:

“R869 Western Distributor Road, Sligo

Between its junction with N4 at Caltragh and its junction with R292 at Ballydoogan via Derrydarrahy all at Sligo in the county of Sligo.”,

and

(f) by the substitution of the following for the matter in column (2) opposite the mention of the regional road R870 in column (1):

“Sligo Town Centre Route

Between its junction with R287 at Mail Coach Road and its junction with R286 at Connaughton Road via Temple Street, Adelaide Street, Wine Street, Lower Knox Street, Hyde Bridge and Markevich Road, (and via Lake Isle Road, Bridge Street, Thomas Street, Teeling Street, Old Market Street and Connolly Street) all at Sligo in the county of Sligo.”.

This order amends the Schedule of the Roads Act 1993 (Classification of Regional Roads) Order 2012 ( S.I. No. 54 of 2012 ) to address a number of road classification issues arising mostly from the construction of the Sligo Western Distributor Road.
