Notice of the making of this Statutory Instrument was published in

I, EOGHAN MURPHY, Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 5 (1A) (inserted by section 23 of the Electoral, Local Government and Planning and Development Act 2013 (No. 27 of 2013)) of the Electoral Act 1997 (No. 25 of 1997) (as adapted by the Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order 2017 ( S.I. No. 358 of 2017 )), hereby order as follows:

1. This order may be cited as the European Parliament Constituency Committee (Establishment) Order 2018.

2. A committee is hereby established to perform the function assigned to it by section 5 (1A) (inserted by section 23 of the Electoral, Local Government and Planning and Development Act 2013 (No. 27 of 2013)) of the Electoral Act 1997 (No. 25 of 1997).

EXPLANATORY NOTE

By this order the Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government establishes a committee to report on European Parliament constituencies following on from European Council Decision (EU) 2018/937 of 28 June 2018 establishing the composition of the European Parliament which provides for the number of members to be elected in each Member State for the 2019-2024 parliamentary term. This number will be 13 in Ireland.
