S.I. No. 20/2018 - Knackery (Bovine Notification) Regulations 2018


Notice of the making of this Statutory Instrument was published in

I, MICHAEL CREED, Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 36 of the Animal Health and Welfare Act 2013 (No. 15 of 2013), hereby make the following regulations:

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Knackery (Bovine Notification) Regulations 2018 and come into operation on 5 March 2018.

2. In these Regulations “knackery” means an establishment approved in accordance with the European Union (Animal By-Products) Regulations, S.I. 187 of 2014, as a Category 2 Intermediate Plant (Knackery) to handle animal by-products after their collection.

3. The operator of a knackery shall, in respect of a bovine carcase received at the establishment consigned from land or premises where bovines are kept for farming purposes, notify the Minister of the identity of the bovine carcase and the land or premises from which it came no later than 7 working days after the receipt of the carcase at the knackery.

4. The Minister may determine the form of a notification under Regulation 3 and, where he or she does so, the operator of a knackery shall comply with that determination.

5. Regulations 3 and 4 are penal provisions to which section 36 (4) (b) of the Animal Health and Welfare Act 2013 applies.
