S.I. No. 41/2017 - Tobacco (Areas for 2017) Order 2017.

Notice of the making of this Statutory Instrument was published in

“Iris Oifigiúil” of 10th February, 2017.

I, MICHAEL CREED, Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 11 (1) of the Tobacco Act 1934 (No. 37 of 1934) as adapted by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (Alteration of Name of the Department and Title of Minister) Order 2011 ( S.I. No. 455 of 2011 ) and after consultation with the Minister for Finance, hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Tobacco (Areas for 2017) Order 2017.

2. (1) The maximum total number of hectares which may be planted with tobacco in the year 2017 shall be 5 hectares.

(2) The maximum number of hectares which may be planted with tobacco in the year 2017 by any one person shall be 0.5 hectares.

(3) The minimum area which may be planted with tobacco in the year 2017 by any one person, other than a person who satisfies the Minister that he or she propose to grow tobacco in the year for experimental purposes, shall be zero hectares.

The Order fixes the maximum acreage which may be planted with tobacco in 2017 and also the maximum and minimum acreages which may be planted by an individual grower.
