I, LEO VARADKAR, Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the European Communities Act 1972 (No. 27 of 1972) and for the purpose of giving further effect to Directive 2003/59/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 15 July 20031 , hereby make the following regulations: | ||
1. These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Vehicle Drivers Certificate of Professional Competence) (Amendment) Regulations 2013. | ||
2. The European Communities (Vehicle Drivers Certificate of Professional Competence) (No. 2) Regulations 2008 ( S.I. No. 359 of 2008 ) are hereby amended by the substitution, for Regulation 6 (2) (b), of the following: | ||
“(b) is used by, or under the control of— | ||
(i) the Garda Síochána, | ||
(ii) the Defence Forces, | ||
(iii) a fire brigade, | ||
(iv) the Civil Defence, or | ||
(v) the Irish Prison Service,”. | ||

These Regulations add the Irish Prison Service to the organisations exempted from the Certificate of Professional Competence regime. | ||
