S.I. No. 504/2008 - County of Carlow Local Electoral Areas Order 2008


Notice of the making of this Statutory Instrument was published in

“Iris Oifigiúil” of 5th December, 2008.

The Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 3 and 24 of the Local Government Act 1994 (No. 8 of 1994), hereby orders as follows:

1. This order may be cited as the County of Carlow Local Electoral Areas Order 2008.

2. (1) The County of Carlow shall be divided into the local electoral areas which are named in the first column of the Schedule to this Order.

(2) Each such local electoral area shall consist of the area described in the second column of the Schedule to this Order opposite the name of such local electoral area.

(3) The number of members of Carlow County Council to be elected for each such local electoral area shall be the number set out in the third column of the Schedule to this Order opposite the name of that local electoral area.

3. Every reference in the Schedule to this Order to an electoral division or townland shall be construed as referring to such electoral division or townland as existing at the date of this Order.

4. In this Order "the Town of Carlow" means the Town of Carlow as altered for the purposes of local elections by the Local Government (Boundaries) (Town Elections) Regulations 1994 ( S.I. No. 114 of 1994 ) and references to the town boundary shall be construed accordingly.

5. (1) A reference in the Schedule to this Order to a line drawn along any road, street, lane or railway line shall be construed as a reference to an imaginary line drawn along the centre of such road, street, lane or railway line.

(2) A reference in the Schedule to this Order to the point at which any road, street, lane, railway line or boundary intersects or joins any other road, street, lane, railway line or boundary shall be construed as a reference to the point at which an imaginary line drawn along the centre of such road, street, lane or railway line or, in the case of a boundary, along such boundary would be intersected or joined by an imaginary line drawn along the centre of the other road, street, lane or railway line or, in the case of a boundary, along the boundary.

(3) A reference in the Schedule to this Order to a line drawn along a road which consists of a dual carriageway shall be construed as a reference to an imaginary line drawn along the central median of such dual carriageway.

6. The County of Carlow Local Electoral Areas Order 1998 ( S.I. No. 407 of 1998 ) is hereby revoked.

Carlow East

That part of the town of Carlow situated north and north-west of a line drawn as follows:commencing at the intersection of the town boundary by the Dublin Road (N9) and proceeding initially in a westerly direction along the said Dublin Road and Green Lane to the intersection of the said Green Lane by the Dublin to Waterford railway line; thence proceeding in a south-easterly direction along the said railway line to its intersection by Staplestown Road; thence proceeding in a westerly direction along Staplestown Road and Tullow Street to the junction of Tullow Street with Dublin Street and Burrin Street; thence commencing in a south-westerly direction and proceeding along Burrin Street and Kilkenny Road (N9) to the intersection of Kilkenny Road (N9) by the town boundary; the electoral divisions of Burton Hall, Johnstown and Kellistown;and the townlands of Aghanure, Bestfield, Kernanstown, Newacre, Newgarden, Oakpark, Pollerton Big, Pollerton Little, Rathnapish and Strawhall in the electoral division of Carlow Rural.

Carlow West

That part of the town of Carlow which is not included in the local electoral area of Carlow East; the electoral division of Ballinacarrig;and the townlands of Carlow, Chapelstown, Mortarstown Lower and Mortarstown Upper in the electoral division of Carlow Rural.

Muinebeag

The electoral divisions of Agha, Ballymoon, Clogrenan, Fennagh, Leighlinbridge,Muinebeag (Bagenalstown) Rural, Muinebeag (Bagenalstown) Urban, Nurney, Oldleighlin, Rathornan, Rathrush, Ridge, Templepeter.

Tullow

The electoral divisions of Clonmore, Grangeford, Hacketstown, Haroldstown, Killerrig, Kineagh, Rahill, Rathvilly, Tankardstown, Ticknock, Tullow Rural, Tullow Urban, Tullowbeg, Williamstown.
