EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Instrument and does not purport to be a legal interpretation.)

The normal speed limit for light rail vehicles on public roads is either 30 miles (48 kilometres) per hour or 40 miles (64 kilometres) per hour, as specified under Road Traffic legislation. These regulations set speed limits for Light Rail Vehicles where it is considered appropriate that these should differ from speed limits set for other road traffic. These speed limits are set at 50 and 70 kilometres per hour.
