S.I. No. 617/2001 - Social Welfare (Occupational Injuries) (Amendment) (No. 1) (Euro) Regulations, 2001


The Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 4 (as amended by section 9 of the Social Welfare Act 2001 (No. 5 of 2001)), 54(6), 54(7), 56(2), 70(1) (as amended by section 20 of the Social Welfare Act, 1994 (No. 4 of 1994)) and 211 (as amended by section 14 of the Social Welfare Act, 2000 (No. 4 of 2000)) of the Social Welfare (Consolidation) Act, 1993 (No. 27 of 1993), hereby makes the following Regulations:

Citation.

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Social Welfare (Occupational Injuries) (Amendment) (No. 1) (Euro) Regulations, 2001.

Commencement.

2. These Regulations come into operation on 31 December 2001.

Definitions.

3. In these Regulations the “Principal Regulations” means the Social Welfare (Occupational Injuries) Regulations, 1967 ( S.I. No. 77 of 1967 ).

Amendments consequential on the introduction of the euro.

4. The Principal Regulations are amended by -

(a)  the substitution in article 6(b) (as amended by article 5 of the Social Welfare (Occupational Injuries) (Amendment) Regulations, 1970 ( S.I. No. 206 of 1970 )) for “5 new pence” of “5 cent”,

(b)  the substitution in article 8A (2) (b) (inserted by article 8 of the Social Welfare (Claims and Payments) (Amendment) Regulations, 1967 ( S.I. No. 85 of 1967 )) for “fifty-two pounds” of “EUR 67”,

(c)  the substitution in article 12(3) for “100 pounds” of “EUR 127”,

(d)  the substitution in Rule 5 of the Rules of Behaviour specified in the Third Schedule to the Principal Regulations (as amended by article 7 of the Social Welfare (Amendment of Miscellaneous Social Insurance Provisions) (No. 2) Regulations, 1986 (S.I. 237 of 1986)) for “twenty-four pounds” of “EUR 30.50”, and

(e)  the substitution in Rule 6 of the Rules of Behaviour specified in the Third Schedule to the Principal Regulations (as amended by article 8(2) of the Social Welfare (Amendment of Miscellaneous Social Insurance Provisions) (No. 2) Regulations, 1986 (S.I. 237 of 1986)) for “eighteen pounds” of “EUR 23”.

5. The Social Welfare (Amendment of Miscellaneous Social Insurance Provisions) (No. 2) Regulations, 1986 ( S.I. No. 237 of 1986 ) are amended by the substitution in article 8(1) for “£936” of “EUR 1,196”.

These Regulations provide for the conversion of certain monetary amounts contained in the Occupational Injuries Regulations to convenient Euro amounts in line with the conversion to the new Euro currency with effect from January 2002.
