S.I. No. 615/2001 - Social Welfare (Liable Relative) (Amendment) (Euro) Regulations, 2001


The Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 4 (as amended by section 9 of the Social Welfare Act, 2001 (No. 5 of 2001)) and 286 (1A) (inserted by section 29 (3) of the Social Welfare Act, 1997 (No. 10 of 1997)) of the Social Welfare (Consolidation) Act, 1993 (No. 27 of 1993), hereby makes the following Regulations:

Citation and construction.

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Social Welfare (Liable Relative) (Amendment) (Euro) Regulations, 2001.

(2) These Regulations and the Social Welfare (Liable Relative) Regulations, 1999 to 2000 shall be construed together as one and may be cited as the Social Welfare (Liable Relative) Regulations, 1999 to 2001.

Commencement.

2. These Regulations come into operation on 1 January, 2002.

Amendments consequential on the introduction of the euro.

3. The Social Welfare (Liable Relative) Regulations, 1999 ( S.I. No. 138 of 1999 ) are amended by -

(a)  the substitution in article 5(1) for “£1” of “EUR 1” and for “50p” of “50 cent” in each place where those amounts occur, and

(b)  the substitution in article 5(2) for “£2” of “EUR 2.50”.

These Regulations provide for the conversion of certain monetary amounts, contained in the Liable Relative Regulations, 1999, to convenient Euro amounts. This is in line with the conversion to the new Euro currency with effect from January 2002.
