S.I. No. 112/1999 - European Communities (Marine Equipment) (Amendment) Regulations, 1999
I, MICHAEL WOODS, Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the European Communities Act, 1972 (No. 27 of 1972), and for the purposes of giving effect to Commission Directive 98/85/EC(1) of 11 November, 1998 hereby make the following Regulations:— | ||||||||
1. These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Marine Equipment) (Amendment) Regulations, 1999. | ||||||||
2. The European Communities (Marine Equipment) Regulations, 1998 ( S.I. No. 545 of 1998 ) are hereby amended by the substitution of the following for the definition of Directive in Regulation 2. (1):— | ||||||||
“‘Directive’ means Council Directive 96/98/EC of 20 December, 1996, as amended by Commission Directive 98/85/EC of 11 November, 1998.” | ||||||||

These Regulations give effect to Commission Directive 98/95/EC of 11 November, 1998(1) which amends Council Directive 96/98/EC, the purpose of which is to enhance safety at sea and the prevention of marine pollution through the uniform application of the relevant international instruments relating to certain marine equipment. | ||||||||
