WILDLIFE (WILD BIRDS) (OPEN SEASONS) (AMENDMENT) ORDER, 1998.

I, Sile De Valera, Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by Sections 8 (2) and 24 of the Wildlife Act, 1976 (No. 39 of 1976), and the Heritage (Transfer of Departmental, Administration and Ministerial Functions) Order, 1994 ( S.I. No. 443 of 1994 ) (as adapted by the Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order, 1997 ( S.I. No. 306 of 1997 )), hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Wildlife (Wild Birds) (Open Seasons) (Amendment) Order, 1998.

2. In this Order the "Principle Order" means the Wildlife (Wild Birds) (Open Seasons) Order, 1979 ( S.I. No. 192 of 1979 ).

3. Article 2 of the Principle Order is hereby amended by the substitution of the following paragraph for paragraph (a):

"(a) The species of protected wild birds specified in column (1) of Part I of the First Schedule to this Order may be hunted during the periods specified in relation to the species concerned in column (2) of that Part, in the places in the State so specified in column (3) of that Part, other than those areas specified in Part I of the Second Schedule to this Order".

4. The First Schedule to the "Principle Order" is hereby amended by the substitution of the following Part for Part I:

The period beginning on the 1st day of November in each year and ending on the 31st day of January in the year immediately following that year.

Cock Pheasant Woodcock

The period beginning on the 1st day of November in each year and ending on the 31st day of January in the year immediately following that year.

Curlew

The period beginning on the 1st day of November in each year and ending on the 30th day of November in the same year.

The period beginning on the 1st day of June in each year and ending on the 31st day of January in the year immediately following that year.

Canada Goose

The period beginning on the 1st day of September in each year and ending on the 30th day of September in the same year.

The period beginning on the 1st day of October in each year and ending on the 31st day of January in the year immediately following that year.

The counties of Cavan (exclusive of the townlands of Eonish Island, Rinn, Deramfield) and Leitrim (exclusive of the River Shannon).

Greylag Goose

The period beginning on the 1st day of September in each year and ending on the 30th day of September in the same year.

Throughout State

Greylag Goose

The period beginning on the 1st day of October in each year and ending on the 31st day of January in the year immediately following that year.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

The effect of this Order is to amend the Open Seasons list of huntable species of wild birds by the extension of the hunting season for the Greylag Goose and Canada Goose in certain goegraphical locations.
