OIL POLLUTION OF THE SEA (CIVIL LIABILITY AND COMPENSATION) (AMENDMENT) ACT, 1998 (COMMENCEMENT) ORDER, 1998.

I, MICHAEL WOODS, Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 18 (3) of the Oil Pollution of the Sea (Civil Liability and Compensation) (Amendment) Act, 1998 (No. 13 of 1998), hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Oil Pollution of the Sea (Civil Liability and Compensation) (Amendment) Act, 1998 (Commencement) Order, 1998.

2. The 16th day of May, 1998 is hereby appointed as the day on which the Oil Pollution of the Sea (Civil Liability and Compensation) (Amendment) Act, 1998 (No. 13 of 1998) shall come into operation.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order brings into operation the Oil Pollution of the Sea (Civil Liability and Compensation) (Amendment) Act, 1998 .

This Act provides for amendments to the Oil Pollution of the Sea (Civil Liability and Compensation) Act, 1988 (No. 11 of 1988) so as to give effect to the Protocol of 1992 to amend the International Convention on Civil Liability for Oil Pollution Damage, 1969 and the Protocol of 1992 to amend the International Convention on the Establishment of an International Fund for Compensation for Oil Pollution Damage, 1971.
