SOCIAL WELFARE ACT, 1997 (SECTION 12 (1) (b) ) (COMMENCEMENT) ORDER, 1997

The Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs in exercise of the powers conferred on the Minister by section 12(5) (a) of the Social Welfare Act, 1997 (No. 10 of 1997), hereby orders as follows:

1 Citation

1. This Order may be cited as the Social Welfare Act, 1997 (Section 12 (1) (b)) (Commencement) Order, 1997.

2 Commencement

2. The 21st day of November, 1997, is hereby appointed as the day on which section 12(1) (b) of the Social Welfare Act, 1997 (No. 10 of 1997), shall come into operation.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order provides that sections 12 (1) (b) of the Social Welfare Act, 1997 shall come into effect on the 21st day of November, 1997.

Section 12 (1) (b) provides that a person with a yearly average of 10 to 19 social insurance contributions will qualify for a reduced rate Old Age (Contributory) Pension, provided he or she has 260 qualifying contributions.
