S.I. No. 430 of 1997.

EDUCATION (ALTERATION OF NAME OF DEPARTMENT AND TITLE OF MINISTER) ORDER, 1997

The Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 6 (1) of the Ministers and Secretaries (Amendment) Act, 1939 (No. 36 of 1939), hereby order as follows:

1. (1) This Order may be cited as the Education (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order, 1997.

(2) This Order shall come into operation on the 1st day of October, 1997.

2. The name of the Department of State, the present name whereof is, in the Irish language, an Roinn Oideachais and in the English language, the Department of Education, is hereby altered, in the Irish language, to that of an Roinn Oideachais agus Eolaochta and in the English language, to that of the Department of Education and Science.

3. The title of the Minister having charge of the Department of State, whose present title is, in the Irish language, an tAire Oideachais and in the English language, the Minister for Education, is hereby altered, in the Irish language, to that of an tAire Oideachais agus Eolaoochta and in the English language, to that of the Minister for Education and Science.

4. In any enactment -

( a ) references to the Department of Education shall be construed as references to the Department of Education and Science;

( b ) references to the Minister for Education shall be construed as references to the Minister for Education and Science.
