NATIONAL CULTURAL INSTITUTIONS ACT, 1997 (COMMENCEMENT) ORDER, 1997

I, MICHAEL D. HIGGINS, Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 1 (4) of the National Cultural Institutions Act, 1997 (No. 11 of 1997), hereby order as follows:

1. (1) This Order may be cited as the National Cultural Institutions Act, 1997 (Commencement) Order, 1997.

(2) In this Order the "Act" means the National Cultural Institutions Act, 1997 (No. 11 of 1997).

2. (1) The 2nd day of June, 1997, is hereby fixed as the day on which the provisions of the Act specified hereunder shall come into operation.

(2) The provisions referred to in paragraph (1) are:

( a ) sections 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6 (1) (in so far as it relates to the Dublin Theatres Act, 1786),

( b ) sections 14, 26, 34,36 and 41 in so far as they relate to the National Gallery and section 20 (other than subsection (4) ) in so far as it relates to Marsh's Library,

( c ) sections 42 to 45,

( d ) section 47,

( e ) sections 60 and 61, and

( f ) sections 62, 63, 64 (other than paragraph (i) ), 68 (other than subsections (1) and (2) (b)) and 69.

3. The 1st day of January, 1998, is hereby fixed as the day on which section 35 (insofar as it relates to the National Gallery) and paragraph (i) of section 64 of the Act shall come into operation.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This order brings into effect from 2nd June, 1997 certain provisions of the National Cultural Institutions Act, 1997 , and with effect from 1st January 1998, section 35 in so far as it relates to the National Gallery and section 64 (i) in relation to the National Theatre Society Ltd.
