HEALTH (OFFICIAL CONTROL OF FOOD) APPROVED LABORATORIES ORDER, 1996.

The Minister for Health, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 5 , 56 and 59 of the Health Act, 1947 (No. 28 of 1947), section 54 of that Act as amended by the European Communities ( Health Act, 1947 Amendment of sections 54 and 61) Regulations, 1991, subsection (3) of section 38 of the Health Act, 1953 (No. 26 of 1953) and section 6 of the Health Act, 1970 (No. 1 of 1970 ), after consultation with the Minister for Enterprise and Employment and the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry, hereby makes the following Regulations for the purpose of giving effect to Council Directive 89/397/EEC1 on the official control of foodstuffs and Council Directive 93/99/EEC2 on the subject of additional measures concerning the official control of foodstuffs.

1. This Order may be cited as the Health (Official Control of Food) Approved Laboratories Order, 1996.

2. This Order shall come into operation on the 1st day of September, 1996.

3. The laboratories listed hereunder are approved to analyse any samples of food taken by an authorised officer for the purposes of the Health (Official Control of Food) Regulations, 1996.

4. The Health (Official Control of Food) Approved Laboratories Order, 1991 ( S.I. No. 335 of 1991 ) is hereby revoked.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

Article 3 of Health (Official Control of Food) Regulations, 1996 empowers the Minister to specify an approved list of laboratories for analysis of food samples taken by authorised officers for the purpose of the regulations. This order approves a list of such laboratories with effect from 1st September, 1996.
