SOCIAL WELFARE (TREATMENT BENEFIT) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1994.

The Minister for Social Welfare, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 4 and 117 of the Social Welfare (Consolidation) Act, 1993 (No. 27 of 1993), hereby makes the following Regulations:—

1 Short title and collective citation.

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Social Welfare (Treatment Benefit) (Amendment) Regulations, 1994.

(2) These Regulations and the Social Welfare (Treatment Benefit) Regulations, 1954 to 1993, shall be construed together as one and may be cited together as the Social Welfare (Treatment Benefit) Regulations, 1954 to 1994.

2 Increase in earnings limits.

2. The Social Welfare (Treatment Benefit) Regulations, 1954 ( S.I. No. 156 of 1954 ) (as amended by the Social Welfare (Treatment Benefit) (Amendment) Regulations, 1993 ( S.I. No. 84 of 1993 )), are hereby amended by—

( a ) the substitution in paragraph (b) of article 10 (1) of "£35,000" for "£30,000", and

( b ) the substitution in paragraph (b) of article 10C(1) of "£70,000" for "£60,000".

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These regulations increase the earnings limit used to determine entitlement to treatment benefit from £30,000 to £35,000. The earnings of a couple below which a dependent spouse can qualify for treatment benefit is also being increased from £60,000 to £70,000.
