ROAD TRAFFIC (SPEED LIMITS) (COUNTY OF KILDARE) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1994.

The Minister for the Environment in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 5 and 45 of the Road Traffic Act, 1961 (No. 24 of 1961) and section 46 of the said Act (as amended by section 25 of the Road Traffic Act 1968 (No. 25 of 1968)), hereby makes the following Regulations:—

1. (i) These Regulations may be cited as the Road Traffic (Speed Limits) (County of Kildare) (Amendment) Regulations, 1994.

(ii) The Road Traffic (Speed Limits) (County of Kildare) Regulations, 1992 and these Regulations shall be construed together and may be cited collectively as the Road Traffic (Speed Limits) (County of Kildare) Regulations 1992 to 1994.

2. These Regulations shall come into operation on the 25th day of March, 1994.

3. In these Regulations "the Principal Regulations" means the Road Traffic (Speed Limits) (County of Kildare) Regulations, 1992 ( S.I. No. 49 of 1992 ).

4. The Principal Regulations are hereby further amended by the deletion of sub-article (b) of article 5 (inserted by the Road Traffic (Speed Limits) (County of Kildare) (Amendment) Regulations, 1992 ( S.I. No. 196 of 1992 ) and the substitution therefor of the following—

"(b) the addition after the Third Schedule of the following.

Fourth Schedule.

Roads in respect of which a special apeed limit of 70 miles per hour is prescribed.

1. The following roads in or adjacent to the Urban District of Naas:—

( a ) The NaasBy-Pass between a point 185 metres northwest of the centreline of Maudlings Interchange-Bridge and the point where it joins the Droichead Nua By-Pass at Newhall.

( b ) The Southbound On Ramp linking the Naas By-Pass and the Dublin-Naas Road (National Road N7) from a point 270 metres from the boundary of the urban district of Naas to its junction with the Naas By-Pass.

( c ) The Northbound Off Ramp linking the Dublin-Naas Road (National Road N7) and the Naas By-Pass for a distance of 50 metres from its junction with the northbound carriageway of the Naas By-Pass.

( d ) The Northbound On Ramp linking the Rathangan Road and the Naas By-Pass between a point 50 metres northeast of its junction with the Rathangan Road and its junction with the northbound carriageway of the Naas By-Pass.

( e ) The Southbound Off Ramp linking the Naas By-Pass and the Rathangan Road between its junction with the southbound carriageway of the Naas By-Pass and a point 120 metres north of its junction with the Rathangan Road.

2. The following roads adjacent to the town of Droichead Nua:—

( a ) The Droichead Nua By-Pass between a point 125 metres west of the centreline of the Ballymany Interchange Bridge and the point where it joins the Naas By-Pass at Newhall.

( b ) The Northbound Off Ramp linking the Droichead Nua By-Pass and the Rathangan Road between its junction with the northbound carriageway of the Droichead Nua By-Pass and a point 140 metres southwest of its junction with the Rathangan Road.

( c ) The Southbound On Ramp linking the Naas-Droichead Nua Road (National Road N7) with the Droichead Nua By-Pass between a point 885 metres from its junction with the Naas-Droichead Nua Road (National Road N7) and its junction with the southbound carriageway of the Droichead Nua By-pass.

( d ) The Northbound On Ramp linking the Droichead Nua-Kildare Road (National Road N7) and the Droichead Nua By-Pass between a point 89 metres south of its junction with the Droichead Nua-Kildare Road (National Road N7) to its junction with the northbound carriageway of the Droichead Nua By-Pass.

( e ) The Southbound Off Ramp linking the Droichead Nua By-Pass and the Kilcullen Road at Ballymany between its junction with the southbound carriageway of the Droichead Nua By-Pass and a point 145 metres northeast of its junction with the Kilcullen road at Ballymany."

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Regulations amend the Road Traffic (Speed Limits) (County of Kildare) Regulations, 1992 by prescribing 70 mph as being the maximum permissible speed on the Nass/Droichead Nua Motorway and on stretches of the roads to and from the Motorway. Ambulances, Fire Brigade Vehicles and Garda Síochána vehicles while being used in the course of duty, are exempt from the speed limit prescribed.
