ROAD TRAFFIC (SIGNS) (BUS LANE) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1993.

The Minister for the Environment in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 5 of the Road Traffic Act, 1961 (No. 24 of 1961) and section 95 of the said Act as amended by section 6 of the Road Traffic Act, 1968 (No. 25 of 1968) hereby makes the following Regulations.

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Road Traffic (Signs) (Bus Lane) (Amendment) Regulations, 1993.

(2) These Regulations and the Road Traffic (Signs) Regulations, 1962 to 1992 may be collectively cited as the Road Traffic (Signs) Regulations, 1962 to 1993.

2. The Road Traffic (Signs) (Bus Lane) Regulations, 1980 ( S.I. No. 358 of 1980 ) are hereby amended by the deletion of sub-article (1) of article 4 [as substituted by article 3 of the Road Traffic (Signs) (Bus Lane) (Amendment) Regulations, 1981 (S.I. No. 333 of 1981)] and the substitution therefor of the following sub-article—

"(1) The roadway markings to indicate a bus lane shall consist of—

( a ) a continuous white line or lines 250 millimetres wide on the right hand edge of the bus lane save where the right hand edge of the bus lane coincides with the centre line of a roadway and

( b ) a continuous white line or lines 250 millimetres wide on the left hand edge of the bus lane save where the left hand edge of the bus lane coincides with the left hand edge of the roadway and

( c ) lettering consisting of the words "Bus Lane" or "Bus Lána" or the words "Bus Lane" and "Bus Lána" used in conjunction.".

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Regulations amend the Road Traffic (Signs) (Bus Lane Regulations, 1980 by prescribing additional roadway markings that may be provided to indicate a bus lane.
