HORSES (REGULATION OF EXPORT) (AMENDMENT) ORDER, 1992.

I, JOE WALSH, Minister for Agriculture and Food, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 2 of the Agricultural and Fishery Products (Regulation of Export) Act, 1947 ) (No. 18 of 1947), as adapted by the Agriculture (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order, 1987 ( S.I. No. 97 of 1987 ), hereby order as follows:

1. (1) This Order may be cited as the Horses (Regulation of Export) (Amendment) Order, 1992.

(2) This Order shall come into operation on the 1st day of November, 1992.

(3) The Horses (Regulation of Export) Order, 1960, and this Order may be cited together as the Horses (Regulation of Export) Orders, 1960 and 1992.

2. In this Order—

"the Principal Order" means the Horses (Regulation of Export) Order, 1960 ( S.I. No. 226 of 1960 ).

3. The Principal Order is hereby amended by—

( a ) the substitution of the following article for Article 3:

"3. In this Order "horses" means wild or domesticated animals of the equine (including zebras) or asinine species or the offspring of crossings of those species.";

( b ) the deletion in the Schedule thereto of "Great Britain", "Northern Ireland" and "Isle of Man".

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order extends the application of the Horses (Regulation of Export) Order, 1960 ( S.I. No. 226 of 1960 ) to the exportation of all equidae and prohibits such exportation except under licence. It also extends the application of the Horses (Regulation of Export) Order, 1960 to exports to Great Britain, Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man and prohibits the exportation of equidae to those destinations except under licence.
