ROAD TRAFFIC (SPEED LIMITS) (COUNTY OF WICKLOW) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1992.

The Minister for the Environment in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 5 and 45 of the Road Traffic Act, 1961 (No. 24 of 1961) and section 46 of the said Act (as amended by section 25 of the Road Traffic Act 1968 (No. 25 of 1968)), hereby makes the following Regulations:—

1. (i) These Regulations may be cited as the Road Traffic (Speed Limits) (County of Wicklow) (Amendment) Regulations, 1992.

(ii) The Road Traffic (Speed Limits) (County of Wicklow) Regulations 1987 to 1991 and these Regulations shall be construed together and may be cited collectively as the Road Traffic (Speed Limits) (County of Wicklow) Regulations 1987 to 1992.

2. These Regulations shall come into operation on the 30th day of July 1992.

3. In these Regulations "the Principal Regulations" means the Road Traffic (Speed Limits) (County of Wicklow) Regulations 1987 ( S.I. No. 141 of 1987 ).

4. The Principal Regulations are hereby amended by—

( a ) the addition to article 5 of the following sub-article:

"(3) 70 miles per hour shall be the speed limit for mechanically propelled vehicles on the roads specified in the Fifth Schedule to these Regulations."

( b ) the addition after the Fourth Schedule of the following:

"FIFTH SCHEDULE

Roads in respect of which a special speed limit of 70 miles per hour is prescribed.

1. The following road in and adjacent to the Urban District of Bray:

The Shankill-Bray By Pass."

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Regulations further amend the Road Traffic (Speed Limits) (County of Wicklow) Regulations 1987 by prescribing a 70 miles per hour speed limit as being the maximum permissible speed on the Shankill-Bray by-Pass.

Ambulances, Fire Brigades and Garda Síochána vehicles, while being used in the course of duty, are exempt from the speed limits.
