I, DR. MICHAEL WOODS, Minister for Agriculture and Food, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 2 of the Food Standards Act, 1974 (No. 11 of 1974) and the Food Standards (Transfer of Departmental Administration and Ministerial Functions) Order, 1987, for the purpose of giving effect to Council Directive 89/394/EEC(1) and having consulted the Minister for Industry and Commerce and the Minister for Health and such organisations as appear to me to be interested to a substantial extent in the subject matter, hereby make the following Regulations.

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Food Standards (Fruit Juices and Fruit Nectars) (European Communities) (Amendment) Regulations, 1992.

2. The Principal Regulations, the Food Standards (Fruit Juices and Fruit Nectars) (European Communities) (Amendment) Regulations, 1984 ( S.I. No. 266 of 1984 ) and these Regulations may be cited together as the Food Standards (Fruit Juices and Fruit Nectars) (European Communities) Regulations, 1978 to 1992, and shall be construed together as one.

3. In these Regulations "the Principal Regulations" means the Food Standards (Fruit Juices and Fruit Nectars) (European Communities) Regulations, 1978.

4. References in the Principal Regulations to Council Directive 75/726/EEC of 17 November 1975(2) shall be construed as references to that Directive as amended by Council Directive 79/168/EEC of 5 February 1979(3), Council Directive 81/487/EEC of 30 June 1981(4) and Council Directive 89/394/EEC(5).

5. The Principal Regulations are hereby amended by the deletion of Regulation 6 (6).

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Regulations amend the Food Standards (Fruit Juices and Fruit Nectars) (European Communities) Regulations, 1978 to 1984, to give effect to Council Directive 89/394/EEC which amends Council Directive 75/726/EEC on the approximation of the laws of the Member States concerning fruit juices and certain similar products.

These Regulations should be read together with the Council Directives.
