POSTAL ORDER (INLAND) AMENDMENT (NO. 24) SCHEME 1991.

AN POST, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Section 70 of the Postal and Telecommunications Services Act, 1983 (No. 24 of 1983), and with the concurrence of the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications, hereby makes the following Scheme:

1. This Scheme may be cited as the Postal Order (Inland) Amendment (No. 24) Scheme, 1991.

2. This Scheme shall come into operation on the 2nd day of April, 1991.

3. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to this Scheme.

4. The Postal Order (Inland) Regulations, 1905, are hereby amended by the substitution of the following for Regulation 4 (inserted by Regulation 4 of the Postal Order (Inland) Amendment (No. 10) Regulations 1971).

"Postal Orders shall be issued for the following sums, namely, 50p, 70p, £1, (1.50, multiples of one pound between £2 and £10 both inclusive, £20, £30, £40 and £50 together with new £70 and £100 denominations.

Postage stamps to a maximum value of ninety nine pence (99p) may be affixed to postal orders".

5. The Postal Order (Inland) Regulations, 1905, are hereby amended by the substitution of the following for Regulation 5:

"The poundage payable on postal orders shall be as follows:

£

For an order with a value not exceeding £0.70

0.30

For an order with a value of £1 but not exceeding £3

0.50

For an order with a value of £4 but not exceeding £5

0.60

For an order with the value of £6 but not exceeding £10

0.80

For an order with the value of £20 but not exceeding £50

1.50

For an order with the value of £70 and £100 only

2.00

6. The Postal Order (Inland) Regulations, 1905, are hereby amended by the addition of the following charge for supplementary service:

"For redating/repayment of Postal Order, a fee corresponding to the poundage rates set out in regulation 5 (of the Postal Order (Inland) Regulations 1905) above will be charged".

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Scheme, which operates with effect from 2nd April, 1991, provides for an increase in poundage and supplementary service charges on Postal Orders. The Scheme also provides for an increase in the maximum value of postage stamps which may be affixed to Postal Orders and the introduction of new £70 and £100 denominations.
