SOCIAL WELFARE (ADULT DEPENDANT) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1990.

The Minister for Social Welfare, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 2 of the Social Welfare (Consolidation) Act, 1981 (No. 1 of 1981 ) (as amended by section 3 of the Social Welfare (No. 2) Act, 1985 (No. 14 of 1985)) and section 3 of the said Act of 1981, hereby makes the following Regulations:—

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Social Welfare (Adult Dependant) (Amendment) Regulations, 1990.

(2) These Regulations and the Principal Regulations shall be construed together as one and may be cited together as the Social Welfare (Adult Dependant) Regulations, 1986 and 1990.

2. These Regulations shall come into operation—

( a ) on the 30th day of May, 1990 for the purposes of unemployment assistance,

( b ) on the 31st day of May, 1990 for the purposes of unemployment benefit,

( c ) on the 4th day of June, 1990 for the purposes of disability benefit, maternity allowance, injury benefit and disablement benefit,

( d ) on the 7th day of June, 1990 for the purposes of invalidity pension, retirement pension and pre-retirement allowance,

( e ) on the 8th day of June, 1990 for the purposes of old age (contributory) pension, old age pension and blind pension.

3. In these Regulations "the Principal Regulations" means the Social Welfare (Adult Dependant) Regulations, 1986 ( S.I. No. 369 of 1986 ).

4. Article 4 of the Principal Regulations is hereby amended by the substitution of "£55" for "£50" in each place in which it appears.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These regulations provide for an increase from £50 to £55 in the income limit which is used in determining whether a person is to be regarded as an adult dependant for social welfare payment purposes. The increased limit takes effect from the beginning of June, 1990.
