I, MICHAEL O'KENNEDY, Minister for Agriculture and Food, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 1 (2) of the Abattoirs Act, 1988 (No. 8 of 1988), hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Abattoirs Act 1988 (Commencement) Order, 1989.

2. The 1st day of September, 1989, is hereby appointed to be the day when Part I (other than section 3 (2) and other than such provisions of Part I that apply to knackeries), Part II, section 35, Part VI and Part VII (other than such provisions of Part VII that apply to knackeries) shall come into operation.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The effect of this Order is to bring into operation on 1st September, 1989, the provisions of Abattoirs Act, 1988 (No. 8 of 1988) regarding the licensing of abattoirs supplying the domestic market and recruitment of local authority veterinary inspectors.
