REDUNDANCY PAYMENTS (VARIATION OF EMPLOYER'S REDUNDANCY CONTRIBUTION) REGULATIONS, 1989.

I, BERTIE AHERN, Minister for Labour, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by subsection (3) of section 28 [inserted by section 3 of the Redundancy Payments Act, 1979 (No. 7 of 1979)], of the Redundancy Payments Act, 1967 (No. 21 of 1967), with the consent of the Minister for Finance, hereby make the following Regulations:

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Redundancy Payments (Variation of Employer's Redundancy Contribution) Regulations, 1989.

(2) These Regulations shall come into operation on the 6th day of April, 1989.

2. The employer's redundancy contribution specified in subsection (1) of section 28 [inserted by section 3 of the Redundancy Payments Act, 1979 (No. 7 of 1979), and amended by section 2 of the Protection of Employees (Employers' Insolvency) Act, 1984 (No. 21 of 1984)], of the Redundancy Payments Act, 1967 (No. 21 of 1967), shall, in lieu of being calculated at the rate of 0.6 per cent specified in the Redundancy Payments (Variation of Employer's Redundancy Contribution) Regulations, 1986 ( S.I. No. 67 of 1986 ), be calculated at the rate of 0.4 per cent of the amount of the reckonable earnings referred to in the said subsection (1).

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The purpose of these Regulations is to change the rate of contribution payable by employers under the Redundancy Payments Acts, 1967 to 1984 from 0.6 per cent to 0.4 per cent of the reckonable earnings of each worker covered by these Acts with effect from 6th April, 1989.
