COINAGE (DESIGN OF FIFTY PENCE COIN FOR YEAR 1988) REGULATIONS, 1988.

I, RAY MACSHARRY, Minister for Finance, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 (6) of the Decimal Currency Act, 1969 (No. 23 of 1969), hereby make the following regulations:

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Coinage (Design of Fifty Pence Coin for Year 1988) Regulations, 1988.

2. The Coinage (Dimensions and Designs) Regulations, 1969 ( S.I. No. 160 of 1969 ), shall, as respects coins of the denomination of fifty pence provided in the year 1988, have effect as if the following were substituted for the matter in the second column of the Second Schedule opposite the reference to fifty pence in the first column of that Schedule:

Either:

( a ) a woodcock; and the inscription "50p"; or

( b ) a shield bearing a representation of three castles over a representation of a mace, sword and cap of maintenance; the inscriptions "50p", "988" and "1988"; and a scroll bearing the inscription "ÁT CLIAT 1000 DUBLIN".

These regulations specify the design of a 50p to be issued in 1988 to commemorate the Dublin Millennium.
