I, ALBERT REYNOLDS, Minister for Industry and Commerce, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the European Communities Act, 1972 (No. 27 of 1972), and for the purpose of giving effect to Council Directive No. 79/112/EEC of 18 December, 1978,1 hereby make the following Regulations:

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Labelling, Presentation and Advertising of Foodstuffs) (Amendment) Regulations, 1987.

(2) These Regulations shall come into operation on the 1st day of July, 1988.

2. Regulation 11 of the European Communities (Labelling, Presentation and Advertising of Foodstuffs) Regulations, 1982 ( S.I. No. 205 of 1982 ), is hereby revoked.

GIVEN under my Official Seal, this 31st day of July, 1987.

ALBERT REYNOLDS,

Minister for Industry and

Commerce.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Regulations revoke a derogation availed of by Ireland, in giving effect to Council Directive 79/112/EEC, in relation to the designation of ingredients belonging to the Categories listed in Annex II to that Directive. As a result of this revocation, an ingredient belonging to one of these categories must be designated, in the listing of ingredients on a foodstuff, in accordance with the provisions of the second indent of Article 6.5 (b). This requires, mainly, that such an ingredient be designated by the name of the category followed by the specific name of the ingredient or its EEC Number.
