RESTRICTION OF IMPORTS (IRON AND STEEL PRODUCTS FROM THE REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA) ORDER, 1987.

The Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 2 of the Restriction of Imports Act, 1962 (No. 20 of 1962), hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Restriction of Imports (Iron and Steel Products from the Republic of South Africa) Order, 1987.

2. (1) A reference in this Order to a tariff heading shall be construed as a reference to the tariff heading in the annex to Council Regulation No. 1445/72/EEC of 24 April, 19721, as amended by Commission Regulation No. 3840/83/EEC of 16 December, 19862 and by any subsequent act adopted by an institution of the European Communities.

(2) The particulars stated in column (2) of the Schedule to this Order are inserted in the said Schedule solely to facilitate identification of the goods referred to at the tariff headings mentioned in column (1) of that Schedule, and, accordingly, nothing contained in the said column (2) shall affect the construction or limit or control the operation of any provision of this Order (including the mention of, or reference to, the said tariff headings in the said column (1)).

3. The importation into the State of goods which are of a kind specified at a tariff heading mentioned in column (1) of the Schedule to this Order and which are manufactured or produced in the Republic of South Africa is hereby prohibited save under and in accordance with a licence issued by the Minister for Industry and Commerce.
