ROAD TRAFFIC (SPEED LIMITS) (COUNTY BOROUGH OF LIMERICK AND COUNTY OF LIMERICK) REGULATIONS, 1984.

The Minister for the Environment in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 5 and 45 of the Road Traffic Act, 1961 (No. 24 of 1961), and section 46 of the said Act as amended by section 25 of the Road Traffic Act, 1968 (No. 25 of 1968) hereby makes the following Regulations:

1 Citation.

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Road Traffic (Speed Limits) (County Borough of Limerick and County of Limerick) Regulations, 1984.

2 Commencement.

2. These Regulations shall come into operation on the 7th day of May, 1984.

3 Interpretation.

3. In these Regulations save where the context otherwise requires—

"the Act" means the Road Traffic Act, 1961 ;

"distance" means distance as measured along the centre line of a road;

"national road" means a road declared to be a national road in the Local Government (Roads and Motorways) Act, 1974 (Declaration of National Roads) Order, 1977 ( S.I. No. 164 of 1977 ) and any reference to the number of such road shall be a reference to the number of such road as shown in column 1 of the First and Second Schedules to the aforementioned Order;

"road" means a public road;

"special speed limit" and built-up area speed limit" have the meanings respectively assigned to them in Part IV of the Act;

"perimeter road" means a road on and along the roadway of which there runs the boundary of a county borough or a town.

4 Built-up area speed limit.

4. (1) Each of the roads described in the First Schedule to these Regulations is hereby declared not to be a public road in a built-up area for the purposes of section 45 of the Act.

(2) Each of the roads described in the Second Schedule to these Regulations is hereby declared to be a public road in a built-up area for the purposes of section 45 of the Act.

5 Special speed limit.

5. (1) Forty miles per hour shall be the speed limit for mechanically propelled vehicles on the roads specified in the Third Schedule to these Regulations.

(2) Fifty miles per hour shall be the speed limit for mechanically propelled vehicles on the roads specified in the Fourth Schedule to these Regulations.

6 Exceptions.

6. There shall be excepted from the special speed limits prescribed in article 5 of these Regulations and from the built-up area speed limit the following:—

(a) ambulances,

(b) fire brigade vehicles, and

(c) vehicles used by members of the Garda Síochana in the performance of their duties as such members.

7 Revocation.

7. The Road Traffic (Speed Limits) (County Borough of Limerick and County of Limerick) Regulations, 1977 ( S.I. No. 157 of 1977 ) are hereby revoked.

FIRST SCHEDULE

Roads declared not to be public roads in a built-up area for the purposes of section 45 of the Act.

1. The following roads in the County Borough of Limerick:—

(a) The road from Sixmilebridge to Watch House Cross Roads for a distance of 868 metres from the county borough boundary.

(b) The Long Pavement for a distance of 731 metres from the point where the county borough boundary intersects the eastern side of the road.

(c) The Corbally Road for a distance of 109 metres from the county borough boundary.

(d) The Dublin Road (National Road N7) between the county borough boundary and a point 128 metres west of its junction with St. Lelia Street.

(e) The Tipperary Road (National Road N24) between the county borough boundary and a point 59 metres northwest of its junction with St. Patrick's Road.

(f) The Kilmallock road for a distance of 1,120 metres from the county borough boundary.

2. The following roads in the town of Newcastle West:—

(a) The Drumcollogher Road, The Bruff Line, The Athea Road.

(b) The Rathkeale Road (National Road N21) for a distance of 749 metres from the point where the town boundary intersects the north-western side of the road.

(c) The Dromin Road where the said road is a perimeter road.

(d) The Killeedy Road for a distance of 617 metres from the point where the town boundary intersects the western side of the road.

(e) The New Road for a distance of 45 metres from its junction with the Drumcollogher Road.

3. The following roads in the town of Rathkeale:—

(a) The Tally-ho or Cool Cappagh Road for a distance of 915 metres from the town boundary.

(b) The Ballingarry Road for a distance of 150 metres from the town boundary.

(c) The Adare Road (National Road N21) between the town boundary at Five Roads and a point 745 metres east of its junction with Roche's Road.

(d) The Newcastle West Road (National Road N21) for a distance of 1,490 metres from the point where the town boundary intersects the northern side of the road.

SECOND SCHEDULE

Roads declared to be public roads in a built-up area for the purposes of section 45 of the Act.

1. The following roads at Abbeyfeale:—

(a) Colbert Terrace, Market Square, Old Church Street.

(b) The Limerick-Killarney road (National Road N21) between a point 594 metres north-east of its junction with Chapel Street and a point 705 metres south-west of the said junction.

(c) Chapel Street and its continuation northwards to Allaghaun Bridge.

(d) The Listowel Road for a distance of 92 metres from its junction with Chapel Street.

(e) The Mountcollins Back Road for a distance of 458 metres from its junction with the Limerick-Killarney road (National Road N21).

2. The following roads at Adare:—

(a) The Limerick-Rathkeale road (National Road N21) between a point 576 metres north-east of its junction with the Askeaton Road and a point 460 metres south-west of the said junction.

(b) The Askeaton Road for a distance of 340 metres from its junction with the Limerick-Rathkeale road (National Road N21).

(c) The Station Road for a distance of 365 metres from its junction with the Limerick-Rathkeale road (National Road N21).

3. The following roads at Annacotty:—

(a) The road through Annacotty Village between its westernmost and easternmost junctions with the Limerick-Dublin road (National Road N7).

(b) The Hawthornes housing estate road between its junction with the road through Annacotty village and its junction with the Limerick-Dublin road (National Road N7).

(c) Mulcair Drive.

4. The following roads at Ardagh:—

(a) The Newcastle West-Foynes road between a point 345 metres south-east of its junction with the Rathkeale Road and a point 320 metres north-west of the said junction.

(b) The Rathkeale Road between its junction with the Newcastle West-Foynes road and its junction with the Station Road.

(c) The Carrigkerry Road between its junction with the Newcastle West-Foynes road and its junction with the Dunganville Road.

(d) The Cross Road for a distance of 460 metres from its junction with the Rathkeale Road.

5. The following roads at Askeation:—

(a) Plunkett Road, Barrack Road, William Street, Brewery Lane, St. Mary's Terrace, Mussel Lane, Coastguard Station Road.

(b) The Limerick-Foynes road (National Road N69) between a point 142 metres west of its junction with St. Francis Terrace and a point 476 metres west of its junction with Plunkett Road.

(c) The Ballycullen Road between its junction with William Street and its junction with Plunkett Road

(d) Quay Road for a distance of 137 metres from its juntion with the Limerick-Foynes Road (National Road n69).

6. The following roads at Athea:—

(a) The Ardagh-Listowel road between a point 305 metres east of its junction with the Glin Road and a point 445 metres west of the said junction.

(b) The Moyvane Road for a distance of 75 metres from its junction with the Ardagh-Listowel road.

(c) The Glin Road for a distance of 220 metres from its junction with the Ardagh-Listowel road.

(d) The Abbeyfeale Road for a distance of 375 metres from its junction with the Ardagh-Listowel road.

7. The following roads at Ballingarry:—

(a) The Mall.

(b) The Rathkeale-Kilmallock road between a point 302 metres north of its junction with Sunday's Well Road and a point 302 metres south-east of its junction with the Drumcollogher Road.

(c) Sunday's Well Road for distance of 51 metres from its junction with the Rathkeale-Kilmallock road.

(d) The Croom Road for a distance of 156 metres from its junction with the Rathkeale-Kilmallock road.

8. The following roads at Broadford:—

(a) The Drumcollogher-Templeglantan road between a point 405 metres east of its junction with the Newcastle West Road and a point 220 metres south-west of its junction with the Freemount Road.

(b) The Newcastle West Road for a distance of 75 metres from its junction with the Drumcollogher-Templeglantan road.

(c) The Tullylease Road for a distance of 100 metres from its junction with the Drumcollogher—Templeglantan road.

(d) The Freemount Road for a distance of 425 metres from its junction with the Drumcollogher-Templeglantan road.

9. The following roads at Bruff:—

(a) Fairgreen Terrace, Ardykeohane housing scheme road, the road serving the County Council housing scheme on the eastern side of the Limerick Road.

(b) The Limerick-Kilmallock road between a point 668 metres north of its junction with the Hospital Road and a point 730 metres south-west of the said junction.

(c) The Athlacca Road for a distance of 137 metres from its junction with the Limerick-Kilmallock road.

(d) The Bulgaden Road for a distance of 115 metres from its junction with the Limerick-Kilmallock road.

(e) The road joining the Bulgaden Road with the Limerick-Kilmallock road.

(f) The Hospital Road for a distance of 840 metres from its junction with the Limerick-Kilmallock road.

(g) The Croom Road for a distance of 370 metres from its junction with the Limerick-Kilmallock road.

(h) The Hill Road for a distance of 130 metres from its junction with the Hospital Road.

10. The following roads at Bruree:—

(a) The Newcastle West-Kilmallock road between a point 225 metres south-west of its junction with Mill Street and a point 845 metres east of the said junction.

(b) Mill Street for a distance of 170 metres from its junction with the Newcastle West-Kilmallock road.

11. The following roads at Caherconlish:—

(a) The Limerick-Mitchelstown road between a point 28 metres north of its junction with the Boher Road and a point 170 metres south-east of its junction with the Kilmurry Road.

(b) The Boher Road for a distance of 60 metres from its junction with the Limerick—Mitchelstown road.

(c) The Kilmurry Road for a distance of 415 metres from its junction with the Limerick-Mitchelstown road.

(d) High Street and its continuation as the Ballyneety Road between the junction of High Street with the Limerick-Mitchelstown road and a point 92 metres south-west of the junction of the Ballyneety Road with the Carrigareely Road.

(e) The Carrigareely Road for a distance of 46 metres from its junction with the Ballyneety Road.

12. The following roads at Cappamore:—

(a) St. Michael's Terrace.

(b) The Limerick-Doon road between a point 83 metres north-west of its junction with the Eyon Road and a point 137 metres south-east of its junction with the Farnanefranklin Road.

(c) The Murroe Road for a distance of 75 metres from itrs junction with the Limerick-Doon road.

(d) The Farnanefranklin Road for a distance of 92 metres from its junction with the Limerick-Doon road.

(e) Moore Street and its continuation as the Pallasgreen Road between the junction of Moore Street with the Limerick-Doon road and a point 75 metres south of the junction of the Pallasgreen Road with St. Michael's Terrace.

(f) The Eyon Road for a distance of 46 metres from its junction with the Limerick-Doon road.

(g) The road from the Limerick-Doon road to the Sportsfield.

13. The following roads at Castlemahon:—

(a) The Newcastle West-Kilmeedy road between a point 230 metres north-west of its junction with the Creamery Road and a point 560 metres south-east of the said junction.

(b) The Creamery Road for a distance of 240 metres from its junction with the Newcastle West-Kilmeedy road.

14. The following roads at Croom:—

(a) Bridewell Lane.

(b) The Cork-Limerick road (National Road N20) between a point 280 metres south of its junction with the Rathkeale Road and a point 92 metres north of its junction with the Crecora Road.

(c) The Crecora Road for a distance of 395 metres from its junction with the Cork-Limerick road (National Road N20).

(d) High Street and its continuation as the Bruff Road between the junction of High Street with the Cork-Limerick road (National Road N20) and a point 300 metres south-east of the junction of the Bruff Road with the Meanus Road.

(e) The Meanus Road for a distance of 140 metres from its junction with the Bruff Road.

(f) The Rathkeale Road for a distance of 275 metres from its junction with the Cork-Limerick road (National Road N20).

15. The following roads at Doon:—

(a) The Cappamore-Cappawhite road between a point 238 metres south-east of its junction with the bilboa Road and a point 298 metres south-east of its junction with the Hollyford Road.

(b) The road dividing the townlands of Doon and Cooga for a distance of 32 metres from its junction with the Cappamore-Cappawhite road.

(c) The Hollyford Road for a distance of 280 metres from its junction with the Cappamore-Cappawhite road.

(d) The Oola Road for a distance of 147 metres from its junction with Cappamore-Cappawhite road.

16. The following roads at Drumcollogher:—

(a) The Square, St. Joseph's Park Road.

(b) The Abbeyfeale-Rathluirc road between a point 137 metres west of its junction with the Tullylease Road and a point 206 metres north-east of its junction with the Square.

(c) The Newcastle West Road for a distance of 137 metres from its junction with the Square.

(d) The Buttevant Road between its junction with the Abbeyfeale-Rathluirc road and a point 75 metres east of its junction with St. Joseph's Park Road.

(e) The Tullylease Road for a distance of 330 metres from its junction with the Abbeyfeale Road.

17. The following roads at Foynes:—

(a) Dernish Avenue, The Hospital Road.

(b) The Limerick-Glin road (National Road N69) between a point 140 metres south-east of its junction with Dernish Avenue and a point 46 metres north-west of its junction with the Hospital Road.

(c) The Corgrig Road for a distance of 476 metres from its junction with the Limerick-Glin Road (National Road N69).

18. The following roads at Galbally:—

(a) The Square.

(b) The Tipperary-Mitchelstown road between a point 190 metres north-west of its junction with the Square and a point 230 metres south-west of the said junction.

(c) The Cahir Road between its junction with the Square and a point 30 metres west of the boundary between the counties of Limerick and Tipperary South Riding.

19. The following roads at Glin:—

(a) Main Street, Church Street, Mary Street, Creagh Street, Lower Mall, Dark Road, Marian Park.

(b) South Mall and its continuation as the Abbeyfeale Road for a distance of 220 metres from the junction of South Mall with East Mall.

(c) East Mall and its continuation as the Ballyhahill Road for a distance of 665 metres from the junction of East Mall with South Mall.

20. The following roads at Hospital:—

(a) The Limerick-Knocklong road between a point 215 metres north-west of its junction with the Kilteely Road and a point 206 metres south of its junction with the Bruff Road.

(b) The Kilteely Road for a distance of 46 metres from its junction with the Limerick-Knocklong road.

(c) The Tipperary Road for a distance of 421 metres from its junction with the Limerick-Knocklong road.

(d) The Bruff Road for a distance of 238 metres from its junction with the Limerick-Knocklong road.

(e) The Knockainy Road for a distance of 160 metres from its junction with the Limerick-Knocklong road.

21. The following road at Kilbeheny:—

The Dublin-Cork Road (National Road N8) between a point 205 metres north-east of its junction with the Kilglass Road and the south-western abutment of Kilbeheny Bridge.

22. The following roads at Kilfinnane:—

(a) The Square, Chapel Lane or Ballyroe, Lower Main Street.

(b) The Mitchelstown-Kilmallock road between a point 403 metres south-east of its junction with Lower Main Street and a point 450 metres south-west of its junction with the Square.

(c) The Ballyorgan Road for a distance of 137 metres from its junction with the Square.

(d) Castle Lane between its junction with Lower Main Street and a point 10 metres south-east of its junction with the Tipperary Road.

(e) The Laght Road for a distance of 175 metres from its junction with Lower Main Street.

23. The following roads at Kilmallock:—

(a) Orr Street, Bohereen Road.

(b) The Limerick-Kilfinnane road between a point 340 metres north of its junction with the Glenfield Road and a point 1,555 metres south-east of its junction with the Rathluirc-Tipperary road.

(d) The Glenfield Road for a distance of 366 metres from its junction with the Limerick Road.

24. The following road at Kilmeedy:—

(a) The Newcastle West-Castletown road between a point 255 metres west of its junction with the Drumcollogher Road and a point 140 metres east of the said junction.

(b) The Drumcollogher Road for a distance of 295 metres south-east of its junction with the Newcastle West-Castletown road.

(c) The Broadford Road for a distance of 55 metres from its junction with the Drumcollogher Road.

(d) The Cloncagh Road for a distance of 180 metres from its junction with the Newcastle West-Castletown road.

(a) The Ballylanders-Hospital road between a point 45 metres north-west of its junction with the Kilmallock Road and a point 5 metres south-east of its junction with Church Road.

(a) The Moylish Road; the Clonmacken Road; the Castletroy-Newcastle industrial estate road; the housing estate roads at Dooradoyle, Ballykeefe, Gouldavoher, Caherdavin Lawn, Caherdavin Park and Milford Grange.

(b) The Ruxborough Road where the said road is a perimeter road.

(c) The Limerick-Ennis road (National Road N18) between the boundary of the county borough of Limerick and a point 183 metres north-west of its junction with the Moylish Road.

(d) The Golf Club Road for a distance of 1,820 metres from its junction with the Dublin Road (National Road N7).

(e) The Monaleen Road for a distance of 1,655 metres from its junction with the Dublin Road (National Road N7).

(l) The Ballyclogh Road for a distance of 1,200 metres from its junction with the Cork Road (National Road N20).

(m) The Derrybeg Road for a distance of 1,070 metres from its junction with the Cork Road (National Road N20) at Raheen crossroads.

(n) The Knockalisheen Road for a distance of 65 metres from the boundary of the county borough of Limerick.

27. The following roads adjacent to the town of Newcastle West:

(a) The Foynes Road for a distance of 202 metres from the boundary of the town of Newcastle West.

(b) The Killarney road (National Road N21) between the boundary of the town of Newcastle West and its junction with the Killaghteen Road.

(c) The Monogay Road for a distance of 640 metres from the boundary of the town of Newcastle West.

(d) The road connecting the Foynes Road with the County Home Three Roads between its junction with the Foynes Road and the point where the boundary of the town of Newcastle West intersects the north-eastern side of the road south-west of the railway bridge.

28. The following roads at Pallaskenry:—

(a) Main Street between a point 18 metres south of its junction with the Ringmoyland Road and its junction with the Limerick-Kilcornan road.

(b) The Limerick-Kilcornan road between a point 76 metres north-east of its junction with Main Street and a point 200 metres south-west of the said junction.

(c) The Ballysteen Road for a distance of 300 metres from its junction with Main Street.

29. The following roads at Patrickswell:—

(a) The Marian Park and Lisheen Park housing estate roads.

(b) The Limerick-Cork road (National Road N20) between a point 200 metres north-east of its junction with the Clarina Road and a point 640 metres south-west of the said junction.

(c) The Clarina Road for a distance of 650 metres from its junction with the Limerick-Cork road (National Road N20).

30. The following roads adjacent to the town of Rathkeale:—

(a) The Weir Road where the said road is a perimeter road.

(b) The Askeaton Road between the point where the boundary of the town of Rathkeale intersects the northern side of the road and a point 45 metres north-west of its junction with Weir Road.

(c) The Ballingarrane Road for a distance of 400 metres from the boundary of the town of Rathkeale.

31. The following roads at Shanagolden:—

(a) The Foynes-Newcastle West road between a point 215 metres north-east of its junction with the Craggard Road and a point 205 metres south-west of its junction with the Ballyhahill Road.

(b) The Parkmore Road for a distance of 395 metres from its junction with the Foynes-Newcastle West road.

(c) The Craggard Road between its junction with the Foynes-Newcastle West road and a point 120 metres south-east of its junction with the Clashganniff Road.

(d) The Clashganniff Road for a distance of 265 metres from its junction with the Craggard Road.

(e) The Ballyhahill Road between its junction with the Foynes-Newcastle West road and a point 135 metres west of its junction with the Mountdavid Road.

(f) The Mountdavid Road for a distance of 95 metres from its junction with the Ballyhahill Road.

THIRD SCHEDULE

Roads in respect of which a special speed limit of 40 miles per hour is prescribed.

1. The following roads at Abbeyfeale:—

(a) The Mount Mahon Housing Estate Road.

(b) The Limerick Road (National Road N21) between a point 594 metres north-east of its junction with Chapel Street and a point 1,326 metres north-east of the said junction.

(c) The Killarney Road (National Road N21) between a point 705 metres south-west of its junction with Chapel Street and a point 1,700 metres south-west of the said junction.

(d) The Clash Road for a distance of 555 metres from its junction with the Limerick-Killarney road (National Road N21).

2. The following road at Adare:—

The Limerick—Rathkeale road (National Road N21) between a point 460 metre south-west of its junction with the Askeaton Road and a point 50 metres south-west of its junction with the Ballingarry road.

3. The following roads at Ardpatrick:—

(a) The road connecting the Kilfinnane Road with the Kilmallock Road (at the creamery), the road connecting the Kilfinnane Road with the Kildorrery Road (near Gleann-Naomh bridge).

(b) The Kilmallock-Kildorrery road between a point 510 metres north-west of the centre-line of Gleann-Naomh bridge and a point 110 metres south-east of the centre line of the said bridge.

(c) The Kilfinnane Road for a distance of 125 metres from its junction with the Kilmallock-Kildorrery road.

4. The following road at Askeaton:—

The Limerick Road (National Road N69) between a point 142 metres west of its junction with St. Francis Terrace and a point 10 metres west of its junction with the Rathkeale Road.

5. The following roads at Ballylanders:—

(a) The Limerick-Mitchelstown road between a point 92 metres north-west of its junction with the Galbally Road and a point 590 metres south-east of its junction with the Bog Road.

(b) The Galbally Road for a distance of 92 metres from its junction with the Limerick-Mitchelstown road.

(c) The Kilfinnane Road for a distance of 75 metres from its junction with the Limerick-Mitchelstown road.

(d) The Bog Road for a distance of 75 metres from its junction with the Limerick-Mitchelstown road.

6. The following road at Ballyneety:—

The Limerick-Bruff road between a point 85 metres north-west of its junction with the Caherconlish Road and a point 360 metres south-east of the said junction.

7. The following roads at Caherconlish:—

(a) The Limerick Road between a point 28 metres north of its junction with the Boher Road and a point 580 metres north of the said junction.

(b) The Mitchelstown Road between a point 170 metres south-east of its junction with the Kilmurry Road and a point 335 metres south-east of the said junction.

8. The following road at Clarina:—

The Limerick-Foynes road (National Road N69) between a point 500 metres north-east of its junction with the Patrickswell Road and a point 245 metres southwest of the said junction.

9. The following road at Croagh:—

The Limerick-Rathkeale Road (National Road N21) between a point of 320 metres south-west of its junction with the Pallaskenry Road and a point 185 metres north-west of the said junction.

10. The following road at Croom:—

The Limerick Road (National Road N20) between a point 92 metres north of its junction with the Crecora Road and a point 300 metres north of the said junction.

11. The following road at Feenagh:—

The Newcastle West-Ballyagran road between a point 155 metres south-east of its junction with the Gortalassa Road and a point 1,110 metres south-east of the said junction.

12. The following roads at Feohanagh:—

(a) The Newcastle West-Drumcollogher road between a point 460 metres north-west of its junction with the Ballydonnell Road and a point 355 metres south-east of the said junction.

(b) The Ballydonnell Road for a distance of 115 metres from its junction with the Newcastle West-Drumcollogher road.

13. The following road at Foynes:—

The Limerick-Glin road (National Road N69) between a point 46 metres north-west of its junction with the Hospital Road and a point 645 metres north-west of the said junction.

14. The following road at Glin:—

The Foynes-Tarbert road (National Road N69) between a point 92 metres north-east of its junction with Mary Street and a point 92 metres north-west of its junction with Dark Road.

15. The following road at Kilbeheny:—

The Dublin-Cork road (National Road N8) between a point 205 metres north-east of its junction with the Kilglass Road and a point 475 metres north-east of the said junction.

16. The following road at Kildimo:—

The Limerick-Askeaton road (National Road N69) between a point 137 metres west of its junction with the old Kildimo Road and a point 705 metres east of the said junction.

17. The following roads in and adjacent to the County Borough of Limerick:—

(a) The Church Road.

(b) The Limerick-Ennis road (National Road N18) between the boundary between the counties of Clare and Limerick at Lansdowne Bridge and a point 183 metres north-west of its junction with the Moylish Road.

(c) The Long Pavement between a point 731 metres south of the point where the boundary of the county borough of Limerick intersects the eastern side of the road and a point 366 metres south of the said boundary.

(d) The Corbally Road from the boundary of the county borough of Limerick to a point 109 metres south-west of the said boundary.

(e) The Dublin Road (National Road N7) between a point 128 metres west of its junction with St. Lelia Street and a point 205 metres east of its junction with the Hawthornes housing estate road.

(f) The Tipperary Road (National Road N24) between a point 59 metres north-west of its junction with St. Patricks's Road and a point 640 metres north-west of the boundary of the county borough of Limerick.

(g) The Limerick-Foynes road (National Road N69) between the boundary of the county borough of Limerick and a point 448 metres west of its junction with the Mungret-Dooradoyle road.

(h) The Meelick Road between the county boundary at Clonconnane Bridge and a point 414 metres north-west of the county borough boundary.

(i) The Mungret-Dooradoyle road between its junction with the Foynes Road and a point 500 metres south-west of its junction with the Cork Road (National Road N20).

(j) The Cork Road (National Road N20) between a point 450 metres south-west of Raheen crossroads and a point 580 metres south west of the said junction.

(k) The Monaleen Road between a point 1,655 metres from its junction with the Dublin Road (National Road N7) and its junction with the Ballysimon Road at Sandville Cross.

(l) The Ballysimon Road between its junction with Hawthornes housing estate road and its junction with the Monaleen Road.

18. The following roads at Loghill:—

(a) The Limerick-Glin road (National Road N69) between a point 25 metres south-west of its junction with the Lisready Road and a point 275 metres south-west of its junction with the Ballyhahill Road.

(b) The Ballyhahill Road for a distance of 260 metres from its junction with the Limerick-Glin road (National Road N69).

19. The following roads in and adjacent to the town of Newcastle West:—

(a) The Killarney Road (National Road N21) for a distance of 350 metres south-west of its junction with the Killaghteen Road.

(b) The Rathkeale Road (National Road N21) between a point 749 metres south-west of the point where the boundary of the town of Newcastle West intersects the north-western side of the road north-east of Lacey's Cross and a point 90 metres south-west of the said intersection.

20. The following road at Oola:—

(a) The Limerick-Cahir road (National Road N24) between a point 1,130 metres north-west of its junction with the Cullen Road and a point 655 metres south-east of the said junction.

(b) The Ballybeg Road for a distance of 295 metres from its junction with the Limerick-Cahir road (National Road N24).

21. The following road at Pallas Green (New):—

The Limerick-Oola road (National Road N24) between a point 348 metres north-west of its junction with the Nicker Road and a point 92 metres south-east of the said junction.

22. The following roads at Patrickswell:—

(a) The Limerick Road (National Road N20) between a point 200 metres north-east of its junction with the Clarina Road and a point 590 metres north-east of the said junction.

(b) The Cork Road (National Road N20) between a point 640 metres south-west of its junction with the Clarina Road and a point 1,110 metres south-west of the said junction.

(c) The Rathkeale Road for a distance of 240 metres from its junction with the Cork Road (National Road N20).

(d) The slip road on the south-eastern side of the Cork Road (National Road N20).

23. The following road at Templeglantan:—

The Limerick-Abbeyfeale road (National Road N21) between a point 305 metres south-west of its junction with the Rathcahill Road and a point 1,135 metres south-west of the said junction.

FOURTH SCHEDULE

Roads in respect of which a special speed limit of 50 miles per hour is prescribed.

The following road at Annacotty:—

The Dublin Road (National Road N7) between a point 205 metres east of its junction with the Hawthornes housing estate road and its junction with the Murroe Road.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Regulations replace the Road Traffic (Speed Limits) (County Borough of Limerick and County of Limerick), 1977 ( S.I. No. 157 of 1977 ) and alter the speed limits applicable to certain roads in this area.

The Regulations exclude the public roads mentioned in the First Schedule from the scope of the built-up area speed limit prescribed by section 45 of the Road Traffic Act, 1961 , and declare the public roads mentioned in the Second Schedule to be subject to that speed limit.

The Regulations also prescribe a speed limit of 40 miles per hour in respect of the public roads mentioned in the Third Schedule.

The Regulations also prescribe a speed limit of 50 miles per hour in respect of the public road mentioned in the Fourth Schedule.

Ambulances, fire brigade vehicles and vehicles used by the Garda Síochána in the course of duty are exempted from all speed limits by the Regulations.
