EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES (CEREAL SEED) REGULATIONS, 1983.

I, AUSTIN DEASY, Minister for Agriculture, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the European Communities Act, 1972 (No. 27 of 1972) and for the purpose of giving effect to Council Directive No. 66/402/EEC¹ of 14 June, 1966, as amended, hereby make the following Regulations:

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Cereal Seed) Regulations, 1983, and shall come into operation on the first day of January, 1985.

(2) The Principal Regulations and these Regulations may be cited together as the European Communities (Cereal Seed) Regulations, 1981 and 1983.

2. In these Regulations "the Principal Regulations" means the European Communities (Cereal Seed) Regulations, 1981 ( S.I. No. 48 of 1981 ).

3. The Principal Regulations shall be construed and have effect as if—

( a ) "or certified seed of the second generation" were deleted from the definitions of "basic seed" and "pre-basic seed" in Regulation 2 (1) and from Regulations 5 (1) (b), 6 (4), 8 (1), 9 (5) and 9 (6),

( b ) "and certified seed of the second generation" were deleted from Regulations 9 (1) and 9 (2),

( c ) "or 'certified seed of the second generation' " were deleted from the definition of "certified seed" in Regulation 2 (1),

( d ) the definition of "certified seed of the second generation" were deleted from Regulation 2 (1), and

( e ) "and red for certified seed of the second generation" were deleted from Regulation 9 (1) (b).
