WOOL MARKETING (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1980.

I, LORCAN ALLEN, Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 11 of the Wool Marketing Act, 1968 (No. 26 of 1968), and by the Agriculture (Delegation of Ministerial Functions) (No. 2) Order, 1980 (S.I. No. 80 of 1980), hereby make the following regulations:

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Wool Marketing (Amendment) Regulations, 1980.

(2) The Wool Marketing Regulations, 1971 ( S.I. No. 143 of 1971 ), and these Regulations may be cited together as the Wool Marketing Regulations, 1971 and 1980.

(3) These Regulations shall come into force on the 1st day of May, 1980.

2. Regulation 3 of the Wool Marketing Regulations, 1971, is hereby amended by the substitution for the entry in the Table thereto of the following:

Faults in Fleece

Matts or Cotts

The ends of the fibres of fleece have become matted together on the flesh side presenting a felted appearance.

Winter Stain

Fleece shows bright yellow colour that will not scour out

Blue, Rubby or Peaty and Heavy Arable

Fleece contaminated with peat or a high proportion of soil, earth or sand

Fine and Strong Grey

Fleece has grey or black fibres but otherwise matches the fleeces described under grade numbers 1,2,3,4,5 and 6

Grey Blackface

Fleeces with more black fibres and kemp than the fleeces described under grade numbers 7,8 or 9 but which otherwise match any of the fleeces so described

Blackface Mountain Cast

Fleeces showing yellow or brownish soily colouring

In determining the grade of a particular fleece, being a grade specified above, regard shall be had to the characteristics or faults specified in the Table opposite the mention of the grade.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Regulations prescribe 15 grades of wool as the minimum to be used by buyers in purchasing fleece wool compared with 22 grades in the 1971 Regulations.
