BOROUGH OF DROGHEDA LOCAL ELECTORAL AREAS ORDER, 1979.

The Minister for the Environment in exercise of the powers vested in him by section 35 of the Local Government Act, 1941 (No. 23 of 1941), as amended by sections 3 and 87 of, and the First Schedule to the Electoral Act, 1963 (No. 19 of 1963), hereby orders as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Borough of Drogheda Local Electoral Areas Order, 1979.

2. In this Order "the Borough" means the Borough of Drogheda.

3. The Borough shall be divided into the local electoral areas set out in the first column of the Schedule to this Order.

4. (1) Each such local electoral area shall consist of the area described in the second column of the Schedule to this Order opposite the name of such local electoral area.

(2) In the Schedule to this Order—

( a ) a reference to a line drawn along any road, street, river or bridge shall be construed as a reference to a line drawn along the centre of the road, street, river or bridge;

( b ) a reference to the point at which a road or river intersects the Borough boundary shall be construed as a reference to the point at which a line drawn along the centre of the road or river intersects the said boundary;

( c ) a reference to the point at which any road or street joins any road or street shall be construed as a reference to the point at which a line drawn along the centre of the one would be joined by a line drawn along the centre of the other;

( d ) the expression "the Borough boundary" means the boundary of the borough of Drogheda at the date of this Order.

5. The number of members of the Council of the Borough to be elected for each such local electoral area shall be the number set out in the third column of the Schedule to this Order opposite the name of such local electoral area.

6. The number of the said members to be elected for each such local electoral area who are to be aldermen shall be the number set out in the fourth column of the Schedule to this Order opposite the name of such local electoral area.

That part of the borough situated within a line drawn as follows:

Commencing at the point where Ballymakenny Road intersects the Borough boundary; thence commencing in a south-easterly direction and proceeding along Ballymakenny Road, Herdman's Gardens and Sunday Gate to the junction of Sunday Gate with Upper Magdalene Street; thence in a south-westerly direction along Upper Magdalene Street to its junction with Magdalene Street; thence in a south-easterly direction along Magdalene Street, St. Peter's Hill, St. Peter's Street, Shop Street and St. Mary's Bridge to the centre of the said bridge; thence in an easterly direction along the river Boyne to the point at which it intersects the Borough boundary; thence commencing in a northerly direction and proceeding along the said boundary to the starting point.

Number Two

That part of the Borough situated within a line drawn as follows:

Commencing at the point where Ballymakenny Road intersects the Borough boundary; thence commencing in a south-easterly direction and proceeding along the boundary of the Number One Local Electoral Area to the centre of St. Mary's Bridge; thence in a westerly direction along the River Boyne to the point at which it intersects the Borough boundary; thence commencing in a northerly direction and proceeding along the said boundary to the starting point.

Number Three

The Borough except the parts thereof comprised in the Number One and Number Two Local Electoral Areas.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order divides the Borough of Drogheda into three electoral areas or the purposes of local elections and specifies the number of members of the Council of the Borough to be elected for each area and the number of those members who are to be aldermen.
