INLAND POST AMENDMENT (No. 22) WARRANT, 1977.

I, CONOR CRUISE O'BRIEN, Minister for Posts and Telegraphs, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 2 , 3 and 6 of the Post Office (Amendment) Act, 1969 (No. 18 of 1969), and with the consent of the Minister for Finance, hereby order as follows:

1. (1) This Warrant may be cited as the Inland Post Amendment (No. 22) Warrant, 1977.

(2) This Warrant shall come into operation on the 25th day of July, 1977.

2. In this Warrant "the Principal Warrant" means the Inland Post Warrant, 1939 (S. R. & O., No. 202 of 1939);

3. Regulation 34 (3) of the Principal Warrant is hereby amended by the substitution for "mileage" and "a mile" of "distance" and "1.6 km", respectively.

4. The first Schedule to the Principal Warrant is hereby amended by the substitution for the entries therein (inserted by Regulation 4 of the Inland Post Amendment (No. 21) Warrant, 1977 ( S.I. No. 48 of 1977 ) ) of the entries in the First Schedule to this Warrant.

5. The Third Schedule to the Principal Warrant is hereby amended by the substitution for the entries therein (inserted by Regulation 5 of the Inland Post Amendment (No. 21) (Warrant 1977) of the entries in the Second Schedule to this Warrant.

(1) The rates of postage specified in Col. 2 shall be charged and paid on every newspapar, whether posted singly or in a Packet of two or more.

(2) Any newspaper not registered will, if posted or tendered for transmission by post, be charged with postage as a printed packet letter or parcel of the same weight, whichever treatment involves the lowest charge. (See Regulation 16).

(3) Any newspaper upon which no part, or a part only, of the postage payable thereon is prepaid shall be forwarded charged with double the amount of the deficient postage.

Conveyance by special messenger of a postal packet throughout the whole of the service demanded or through part only of its course in the post.

For delivery in Ireland a distance fee at the rate of 10p for the first 1·6 km or part thereof and 5p for every additional 1·6 km or part thereof.

For delivery in Great Britain, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands, or the Isle of Man, a distance fee of 10p per 1·6 km.

Writing down of Express message received by telephone.

A fee (in addition to the appropriate telephone fee and appropriate distance fee) of 5p.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Warrant applies to the Inland Post service and comes into operation on the 25th July, 1977. It substitutes metric weights and measurements for those hitherto in use, and makes certain adjustment in charges.
