EXPLANATORY NOTE.

Section 10 (3) of the Social Welfare (Supplementary Welfare Allowances) Act, 1975 , provides that the Minister for Social Welfare may, with the sanction of the Minister for Finance, by regulations vary (but not so as to reduce) the weekly amounts of supplementary welfare allowance payable under that Act.

These Regulations provide for increased statutory rates of supplementary welfare allowance. The new rates correspond with the maximum rates of unemployment assistance at present applicable to persons resident in rural areas.
