MAXIMUM PRICES (SUGAR) ORDER, 1974.

I, JUSTIN KEATING, Minister for Industry and Commerce, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 22A and 22C (inserted by the Prices (Amendment) Act, 1965 (No. 23 of 1965)) of the Prices Act, 1958 (No. 4 of 1958), as amended by the Prices (Amendment Act, 1972 (No. 20 of 1972), and the Prices Stabilisation Order, 1973 ( S.I. No. 96 of 1973 ), hereby order as follows :

1. This Order may be cited as the maximum Prices (Sugar) Order, 1974.

2. This Order shall come into operation on the 1st day of August, 1974.

3. The maximum prices at which standard granulated white sugar may be sold by retail shall be—

( a ) in the case of a package containing 1 lb. of such sugar, 6½p;

( b ) in the case of a package containing 2 lbs. of such sugar, 12½p;

( c ) in the case of a package containing more than 2 lbs. of such sugar, a price calculated at the rate of 12½p per 2 lbs.

4. The Maximum Prices (Household Goods) (No. 4) Order, 1974 ( S.I. No. 189 of 1974 ), is hereby amended by the deletion of the matter in columns (2) and (3) of Part 1 of the Schedule thereto at reference number 1.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order fixes the maximum retail prices which may be charged for sugar (standard granulated white) and amends the Maximum Prices (Household Goods) (No. 4) Order, 1974 by removing the price of sugar from the scope of that Order.
