S.I. No. 139 of 1974.

EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES (TEXTILES) REGULATIONS, 1974

I, JUSTIN KEATING, Minister for Industry and Commerce, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the European Communities Act, 1972 (No. 27 of 1972), hereby make the following regulations:

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Textiles) Regulations, 1974.

(2) These Regulations shall come into operation on the 1st day of June, 1974.

2. The prohibition on the importation of certain goods effected by paragraph 4 of the Control of Imports (Quota No. 51) (Miscellaneous Textiles) Order, 1964 ( S.I. No. 297 of 1964 ), shall not extend or apply to goods—

( a ) which are specified at tariff heading numbers 54.03 and 54.04 in the Schedule to the Imposition of Duties (No. 200) (Customs and Excise Duties and Form of Tariff) Order, 1972 ( S.I. No. 220 of 1972 ), and

( b ) which are shown to the satisfaction of the Revenue Commissioners to have been manufactured in Hong Kong, India, Japan, Macao, Malaysia, Pakistan, Taiwan (Formosa) or Yugoslavia.

3. The Control of Imports (Quota No. 51) (Miscellaneous Textiles) Order, 1964, is hereby amended by the deletion in the first and second columns of the First Schedule (inserted by the European Communities (Textiles) Regulations, 1972 ( S.I. No. 325 of 1972 ) ), of "Metallised yarns" and "Goods specified at tariff code numbers 5201-227, 5201-235 and 5201-243.", respectively.

4. The Control of Imports (Quota No. 52) (Miscellaneous Textile Piece Goods) Order, 1964 ( S.I. No. 298 of 1964 ), is hereby amended by the substitution in the second column of the First Schedule (inserted by the European Communities (Textiles) Regulations, 1972) opposite "Woven fabrics of silk, waste silk or noil silk" in the first column for "Goods specified at tariff heading numbers 50.09 and 50.10 but excluding those specified at tariff code numbers 5009-048, 5009-150, 5009-182, 5009-238, 5009-321 and 5010-473." of "Goods specified at tariff heading number 50.09 but excluding those specified at tariff code numbers 5009-048, 5009-150, 5009-182, 5009-238 and 5009-321.".

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The effect of these Regulations is to remove from the scope of the:

(1) Control of Imports (Quota No. 51) (Miscellaneous Textiles) Order, 1964, the goods Flax or Ramie Yarn, specified at Tariff Headings 54.03 and 54.04 and which are manufactured in Hong Kong, India, Japan, Macao, Malaysia, Pakistan, Taiwan (Formosa) or Yugoslavia;

(2) Control of Imports (Quota No. 51) (Miscellaneous Textiles) Order, 1964, the goods Metallised Yarns, specified at Tariff Heading 52.01 and

(3) Control of Imports (Quota No. 52) (Miscellaneous Textile Piece Goods) Order, 1964, the goods Woven fabrics of silk etc., specified at Tariff Heading 50.10.
