MAXIMUM PRICES (BREAD) (No. 2) ORDER, 1974.

I, JUSTIN KEATING, Minister for Industry and Commerce, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 17 and 20 of the Prices Act, 1958 (No. 4 of 1958,) hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Maximum Prices (Bread) (No. 2) Order, 1974.

2. This Order shall come into operation on the 22nd day of March, 1974.

3. In this Order—

"batch bread" means bread which is not baked in containers and which is sold or offered for sale in loaves of which the outside is not all crust;

"pan bread" means bread baked in containers.

4. (1) The maximum price at which batch bread and pan bread may be sold by retail shall be—

( a ) in the case of batch bread and pan bread which is unwrapped—

(i) 7½p per loaf when sold in loaves of 400 grammes,

(ii) 14p per loaf when sold in loaves of 800 grammes or loaves joined together the total weight of which is 800 grammes,

(iii) 21½p per loaf when sold in loaves of 1250 grammes,

(iv) 27p per loaf when sold in loaves of 1600 grammes or loaves joined together the total weight of which is 1600 grammes,

and

( b ) in the case of batch bread and pan bread which is wrapped (whether sliced or not sliced)—

(i) 8p per loaf when sold in loaves of 400 grammes,

(ii) 14½p per loaf when sold in loaves of 800 grammes or loaves joined together the total weight of which is 800 grammes,

(iii) 22½p per loaf when sold in loaves of 1250 grammes,

(iv) 28p per loaf when sold in loaves of 1600 grammes or loaves joined together the total weight of which is 1600 grammes.

(2) For the purposes of this Article a loaf shall be deemed to be of a particular weight specified in this Article if its appearance is such that it is reasonable to infer from it that the loaf was of approximately that weight at the time it was baked.

5. (1) Batch bread and pan bread shall, when sold by retail, be sold only in loaves of 400 grammes, 800 grammes, 1250 grammes or 1600 grammes.

(2) This order does not apply in relation to—

( a ) any loaf of bread of 300 grammes or less, or,

( b ) pan bread of any of the following brands:

(i) Hovis,

(ii) Procea,

(iii) Bermaline,

(iv) Hi-Vi,

(v) Maltana,

(vi) Dr. Vogel's Swiss Health Bread,

(vii) Thoma,

(viii) Abermalt,

(ix) Slimcea,

(x) Veda,

(xi) Tritamyl.

6. The Maximum Prices (Bread) Order, 1974 ( S.I. No. 3 of 1974 ) is hereby revoked.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order fixes the maximum prices and the weights at which bread, as defined in the Order, may be sold by retail.
