UNEMPLOYMENT ASSISTANCE (EMPLOYMENT PERIOD) ORDER, 1971.

I, JOSEPH BRENNAN, Minister for Social Welfare, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 4 (3) and 7 (1) of the Unemployment Assistance Act, 1933 (No. 46 of 1933), and the Social Welfare (Transfer of Departmental Administration and Ministerial Functions) (No. 1) Order, 1947 (S. R. & O., No. 18 of 1947), hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Unemployment Assistance (Employment Period) Order, 1971.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to this Order.

3. The following regulations shall have effect for the purpose of section 4 (3) of the Unemployment Assistance Act, 1933 (No. 46 of 1933), that is to say:

I. The period commencing on the 14th day of April, 1971, and ending on the 16th day of November, 1971, shall be an employment period in respect of the following class of persons, namely, every man who has no dependant.

II. For the purposes of these regulations, "dependant" means a dependant within the meaning of section 4 of the Unemployment Assistance (Amendment) Act, 1935 (No. 38 of 1935), as amended by section 98 of the Social Welfare Act, 1952 (No. 11 of 1952), and by section 25 of the Social Welfare Act, 1970 (No. 12 of 1970).

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The effect of this Order is to exclude men who have no dependants from unemployment assistance during the period from 14 April 1971 to 16 November 1971.
