HEALTH (FLUORIDATION OF WATER SUPPLIES) REGULATIONS, 1971.

The Minister for Health, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 4 of the Health (Fluoridation of Water Supplies) Act, 1960 (No. 46 of 1960), (hereinafter referred to as the "Act") hereby makes the following Regulations:—

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Health (Fluoridation of Water Supplies) Regulations, 1971.

2. These Regulations shall come into operation on 1st day of April, 1971.

3. Where a council of a county is required by regulations made under the Act to perform the following acts in relation to the fluoridation of water in a water supply referred to in those regulations, namely,

(a) the provision, installation and maintenance of equipment for fluoridation,

(b) the making of arrangements for the addition of fluorine to the water, and

(c) the testing of the fluorine content of the water to which fluorine has been added,

the council shall perform such acts as agent for the health board in whose functional area such county is situated.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The effect of these Regulations is to require county councils to fluoridate public water supplies on behalf of health boards.
